King Todiramphus Chloris aka Collared Kingfisher.
The rain gave a unique background to this Kingfisher perched on a pole at a fish pond.

The National Park rangers informed me that these kingfishers rarely visit the mangroves or beaches for food. Instead, they frequent fish and shrimp ponds, which provide easy food for them.

Today, when I was at a fishpond shooting, I met a farmer who was quite upset with these kingfishers, as they tend to eat the young fish he introduces into his pond.

Todiramphus Chloris
"All of them have a greenish-blue crown, a white spot above the lores, a black mask extending down as a narrow band across the hindneck, and a white collar. Upperparts are greenish-blue, rump brighter blue, with blue wings and tail and white underparts. Female and juvenile slightly duller. Subspecies mainly differ in plumage, with upperparts varying from blue to green to olive-toned, white loral spot sometimes extending as a supercilium, and underparts sometimes buffier. Gives various vocalizations, but most common call is a “kek-kek-kek-kek.” -- eBird.

In spite of the rain, shooting with Nikon weather sealed lenses and body give me the confidence to continue shooting.

AFTERMATH of Typhoon Carina (Gaemi): Heroes at Work
Beneco - Benguet Electric Cooperative

In the wake of Typhoon Carina’s fury, a dedicated team of linemen braved relentless rain and high risk conditions to restore electricity to our affected homes. Many of these unsung heroes who worked tirelessly, risking their lives to ensure our communities regained power, may also be fathers who want to return safely home to their families.

According to BENECO (Benguet Electric Cooperative), 90 linemen worked in shifts over the past 24-hours, inspecting and restoring power across the 13 municipalities within Benguet province. Their commitment and swift response deserves our appreciation.

As of the latest press release by BENECO on July 25, 97.5% of Baguio City’s affected areas have been restored, and the remaining towns in Benguet are nearly 100% back on the grid.

Let’s honor these linemen and express our gratitude for their unwavering service!

KHON

The Khon mask dance, a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage, is a vibrant performance tradition rooted in Ramayana lore. Dancers adorned in elaborate masks bring to life epic tales of heroism, love, and duty.

Each movement is carefully choreographed, conveying emotions and the story's narrative through gestures and bodily expression.

The Khon mask dance serves not only as a form of entertainment but also as a powerful medium for preserving Thailand's rich cultural heritage.

Morning light over the Great City of Angels - Bangkok.

Sun rises over the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand, a city that holds the world's record for having the longest name.

The full ceremonial name in Thai came into use during the reign of Mongkut (1851-1868).

Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.

Which translates to: The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarma.

Thais usually refers to the city as Krung Thep - City of Angels.

“The River of Kings” - Chao Phraya.

The Chao Phraya river, which literally means, "river of kings", cuts a majestic path through Bangkok, all the way north from the Gulf of Thailand for a total of 372km.

This vital artery has been Thailand's lifeblood for centuries, providing transportation, sustaining communities and irrigation for the "Rice Bowl of Asia" - Thailand.
