TAG an aspiring musician! 🥁🎶🎹  Start your musical journey through The Honolulu Jazz Music School at HiSAM for students ages 6 and up - including adults. Private lessons with Dae Han range from 30 minutes to an hour and are currently offered in drum voice, piano, and music theory. Lessons are currently held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 1 and 8 p.m. in the Mirror Room on HiSAM’s first floor. Instruments are provided.

I haven't posted in a bit but I felt compelled today to shed some lite. My apologies for the long read.

Planning an event can be a tricky thing. There's "some" truth when people say that “anyone” can do it. They can, BUT can they pull it off smoothly? Will the timing be right? What about all the “what ifs”? Who do you turn to? What do you do? Will it be successful?

I write this not for me but for others that are thinking of planning an event and not having a planner. Small events with family, some friends you can get away with an oops or two, but not when you are dealing with the public and the success of your organization or business.

I attended an event recently and it was a very nice event, and I had fun but the timing of a lot of the program was way off. At times I held my breath and actually wanted to do something. So here is some free advice to all the small organizations out there, that want to save some cash and do it them selves.

1) if you are expecting a lot of people have more than one check in table. maybe a pre-check in.
2) never have guests participation at the same time dinner is being served.
3) schedule like items together so that there is a flow to the program,
4) if you can hire a real MC or have someone to take charge of the program so that speakers are not being talked over.
5) finally if you have a consultant or planner make sure they attend the event just to observe, give feedback to how things are going and possible help out if you need that extra hand.

Just some simple planning advise from a experienced planner.

The season really is a time for giving and playing it forward. A small jester of buying lunch for me from a co-worker today let me to give an event bigger giving by making a donation to the Hawaii Food Bank in the amount of the lunch purchased for me. My small donation will feed a person in Hawaii for 1 week. So remember just because the jester is small for you that same jester can make a bigger difference with someone less fortunate.
