The winners of the inaugural PEI C**t Stakes awards for the leading breeder, trainer, trotting stallion, and pacing stallion from the PEI C**t Stakes events in 2023 are as follows:

1) Tyndall Semple Award for Top Trotting Stallion
Winner: EL Rocket
The winner was chosen by money earnings from progeny in the program in 2023.

2) George Callbeck Award for Top Pacing Stallion

The winner was chosen by money earnings from progeny in the program in 2023.

Island breeders are invited to attend the PEI Standardbred Breeders Association AGM on March 19th, 2024 in the CDP grandstand at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Dr. Ben Stoughton from the Atlantic Veterinary College will be the guest speaker for the event. He will be doing a presentation on Biosecurity, Risk Management, and Emerging Viruses on the Breeding Farm. Dr. Stoughton is a large animal internal medicine specialist. He works as part of the Large Animal Hospital team treating various medical and surgical conditions in large animals. He has a particular interest in veterinary parasitology, neonatology, neurology, diagnostic ultrasonography and, equine cardiology.

The AGM Meeting, Board Elections, and PEI C**t Stakes 2023 awards for leading trainer, leading breeder, and leading trot and pace stallions will follow.

** Form Submission Reminder to Island Breeders**

1) For those of you who boarded mares that were owned by off-Island residents and the mare foaled on PEI in 2023 and resided on PEI for 183 days during the 2023 calendar year, please submit your resident mare forms to the PEIHRIA office before December 31st, 2023 to ensure that the resulting foal will be eligible to be nominated to the Lady Slipper or the Joe O'Brien stakes. The form cannot be signed by the owner. It must be submitted and signed by the farm manager on the owner's behalf.

2) The deadline to register your 2023 foals with SC is December 31st, 2023. Once you have completed that process if your foal was born on PEI and the mare resided on PEI for 183 days during 2023 you are eligible to apply for the foal incentive ($250) that is through the PEIHRIA. After yet another amazing season for the Atlantic Dream Stable Contest which saw the most entries in the 3 years the contest has been held with 132 participants, we were pleased to present a certificate and cheque for $2,000.00 to the now 2-time winner, Tyler Wilkie. We were joined by Dianne Stewart, the representative for title sponsors Phillips Agri Services, Brooks Performance Horse Feeds, Trouw Nutrition, and Shur-Gain to present a cheque to the IWK Foundation. Barbi Holland, Relationship Manager for the IWK Foundation was on hand to accept the cheque. All entry fees for the contest were used to make this excellent donation. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest, our title sponsors, and Red Shores Racetrack and Casino for sponsoring the 2nd to 10th place prizes. We hope to see everyone back for the 2024 contest!

A reminder to breeders and owners that the December 1st deadline for the PEI Resident Mare Program is fast approaching. If you have a mare that is owned by an off-island resident and has resided on PEI for 183 days during the breeding season, you must submit a PEI Resident Mare Form for the foal to be eligible for the Joe O'Brien and the Lady Slipper stakes.

The deadline for the PEI Foal Incentive is January 31st, 2024. To be eligible for the foal incentive your mare must have met the PEI residency requirements for the 2023 breeding season.

The PEIHRIA in partnership with the PEISBA is pleased to announce a Trot Broodmare Purchase Assistance Program for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

This program is open to breeders who are residents of PEI only. There will be five slots available in the program. The program will pay 50% of the purchase price of an in-foal mare to a maximum of $6,000 dollars or 50% of the purchase price of a not-in-foal mare to a maximum of $6,000 dollars. In addition, those who are successful in the slot draw and purchase an in-foal mare will be eligible to receive an additional $2,500 dollars when they register and enroll the live foal in the 2024 foal incentive program.

Program criteria and the application form are available at the link below. Please read the criteria carefully to determine if you are eligible to apply. Applications close on November 3rd at 10:00 A.M. AST. A live draw will take place on November 3rd at 10:00 A.M on this page to determine the successful applicants. The successful applicants will be contacted by 17:00 P.M. AST on November 3rd.
Those who were successful in the draw will have until March 1st, 2024 to purchase a mare.

Unsuccessful applicants will be placed on an also-eligible list. Should a slot become available after March 1st, 2024, preference will be given to those on the also-eligible list who meet the criteria and have purchased an in-foal trot mare.

A reminder to all Prince Edward Island Breeders that if you have broodmares owned by non-island residents residing at your farm, you will be required to submit a Broodmare Declaration Form for those mares to meet the Island Residency requirements.

The mare must have resided at your farm for 183 days during the 2023 foaling year for their offspring from 2023 to qualify for nomination to the Lady Slipper or Joe O'Brien stakes. The form must be signed by the Farm owner or manager at which the mare resides. The deadline to submit this form will be December 1st, 2023.

The PEIHRIA will also be offering the Foal Incentive for 2023. To be eligible for the $250 incentive, your broodmare must meet the Island Residency requirements (reside in PEI for 183 days during the 2023 foaling year) and have foaled on PEI in 2023. The deadline to submit this form will be December 31, 2023.

The 2023 Atlantic Classic Sale yearling preview book with interactive TrackIt links is now available online at the website below.

A printed copy of the preview book will be available at the race office in Charlottetown and Summerside starting this weekend.

There are a total of 152 yearlings consigned to this year's sale. We are pleased to offer a large selection of Maritime-sired horses as well as horses sired by Ontario, Pennsylvania, Indiana, New York, and Ohio stallions.

New this year will be the addition of a yearling preview at the Crapaud Exhibition Grounds on Thursday, October 5th from 4-8 p.m. Buyers are welcome to attend the yearling preview and inspect the yearlings they are interested in prior to the sale.

The sale will also be starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6th at the Crapaud Exhibition Grounds. Yearlings will be available for inspection starting at 9:00 a.m. on sale day.

The Atlantic Classic Sale committee looks forward to welcoming all consignors and buyers to this year's Atlantic Classic Sale.
