A huge shout out to the QUT Bot Bar who hosted our Battle of the Bands! They went along with our antics and allowed us to decorate the bar QUT v UQ style and use their equipment. Thank you so much.

We would also like to give a MASSIVE thank you to our amazing AV tech Rohan. At the last minute Rohan volunteered to help us and absolutely saved our event. The event would not have been possible without him.

And just like that the QUT v UQ Battle of the Bands is over. A MASSIVE thank you to our amazing 5 bands who battled it out and gave the audience a great performance. Congratulations to you all 💙💜

If you didn’t know already our winners of the night were… Monkey Got Keys which meant that UQ won!

We are saddened to announce that due to a recent, unforeseen family emergency of one of their members, Castle Row can no longer perform tomorrow night at our Battle of the Bands. Castle Row has asked us to convey their sincere apologies for the necessity of this decision, emphasising that family always takes precedence, a sentiment we wholeheartedly support.

We wish them all the best during this tough time and hope to see them perform at a later date. Please be kind and respectful during this time.

The Battle of the Bands is, of course, still going ahead! UQ students, you guys will just have to work a little bit harder now to bring more people to support your Uni- I know you are more than capable.

We understand the disappointment of losing a valuable and talented band from our lineup. Rest assured, we are confident that the remaining 5 bands can deliver an unforgettable performance that will leave you in awe.

Again, all the best to Castle Row, and we will see everyone else at the QUT Botanic Bar at 5:00 p.m TOMORROW.

Introducing our incredible 1st- 3rd place prize donator: Chris Brownbill from Underground Audio! Chris's passion for music kicked off at a young age, recording local bands in the Sunshine Coast/Meanjin area. With 15 years of expertise as a recording engineer, he's a true maestro. 🎹

At just 21, Chris ran the renowned Sun Distortion, a vibrant hub for local talent, doubling as a venue and recording studio. Managing record labels and even attending the prestigious "Mix with the Masters" seminar in France, he learned from industry legends like Steve Albini and Greg Norman.

But it doesn't end there! For the past seven years, Chris has been rocking it at Underground Audio, a game-changing musical community resource. Prepare to be inspired by this musical genius.

MEET THE BAND 🎸

Three high school friends - Luke on drums, Georgia on keys, Chip on guitar - formed Castle Row after moving into a tiny flat in Annerley, circa 2020. Next minute, lockdown occurred - for some, it drew a halt on productivity and motivation. But not for Castle Row; it strengthened a musical bond and created a unique sound we’re excited to showcase to our city. With an array of music taste, we combine blues, rock, indie, and pop music to bring a diverse sound to any audience.

Come on down to the Bot Bar on September 22nd - you won’t want to miss this!

Presenting the dynamic duo – Amaya and Natalie, owners of Obsidian Recordings, accompanied by the adorable Jay Jay, their beloved canine friend! But they're far from just regular guests; in fact, they're one of our extraordinary prize donors for the evening. Brace yourself for an exciting inside scoop on these two powerhouses.

"Obsidian Recordings is made up of two female audio engineers, Natalie Whittaker & Amaya Dedes. We met at uni studying our bachelors of Audio Production and clicked straight away. We were fortunate enough to gain access to an amazing studio in Salisbury called the Moon Room at the start of this year and begin our studio adventures. We have had a few of our favourite local bands record with us and many more to come we hope!"

We are excited to reveal that the second band competing in Live and Unreal’s Battle of the Bands is… The Melancholiac from QUT!!!

They combine UK prog rock with the local garage punk flavour, to deliver youthful energy, dynamic musicianship and (relentless) head banging to all stages.
