Being welcoming is in our nature..it's engrained in us and it's part of being Irish. The people of Boyle have been more than welcoming to everyone that has moved to our lovely town and county over the last few years and months. We love that other people love our town and Ireland as much as we do.
But unfortunately the government are taking advantage of that welcoming nature and it's dividing us as a nation.
Some people believe in infinite open borders and believe we should welcome and look after every single person that comes to our shores for help.
In an ideal world, this would be amazing if we could achieve this. But this is not the reality.
We believe that we should take responsibility and do everything we can to help those in need from other countries but there has to be a limit on how many people we can PROPERLY look after. So we ask...
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want your government to ensure their own nation have their basic needs met before opening the borders and extending a helping hand to others?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want your government to limit the number of people they take in so they can ensure there are enough facilities for everyone?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want to hold the Irish government accountable for the state they have this country in?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want the government to take in genuine refugees who are actually fleeing war over international protection applicants who may be coming here for economic (or non life threatening) reasons?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want the government to look after all the women and children first and place them in housing where they are safe and comfortable?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to want to know why landlords are getting paid tens of thousands (in some cases hundreds of thousands and even millions of euro) a month for housing international protection applicants in sub standard overcrowded housing with no privacy and less than basic facilities?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to wonder why these payments can't be reduced to standard rental rates? Is it wrong to want that excess money to be put to better use to improve the infrastructure and facilities in the small communities that are dealing with such a large increase in population?
𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 to demand the government to do better so that everyone that calls this small island home can look forward to a better Ireland and a brighter future?
It's time to stop the division and turn the attention on the real problem party here... The Irish government.
