We had the honor of filming the Memorial Service for Master Chief John Miller, Jr.
John joined the #usnavy in August, 1959 at 17 after graduating from St. Theresa Catholic School in Detroit, MI. After attending “B” School in 1963, and transferring to San Diego, CA to work with the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT-12), (known as the #navyseals ), he was deployed with them during 2 tours in #Vietnam. The supervising officer was so impressed with John that he gave him training exercises on the side, preparing him for becoming a part of the #UnderwaterDemolitionTeam, later known as the Navy Seal. When he injured his knee, instead of re-assigning him, the team voted to keep him with them.
John was a devout #Christian and a member of Christ the King Church where he sang in the choir while in California. As an activist, he was a huge asset with the Black Catholic Caucus, working tirelessly on race relations education in the Catholic Church.
John was family oriented, private, charitable, and a supportive “best friend” to many. He loved to travel, sing and entertain. He was married to Myralyn Stewart from May 18, 1996 until his passing on March 27, 2020. John was loved and respected by all who knew him and he will be truly missed.
