The organisers of the 2024 North West 200 will introduce significant changes to the qualifying schedule at this year’s event.
With many of the teams and riders that compete in the NW200 scheduled to race at the Oulton Park British Superbike championship meeting on Saturday-Monday, May 4-6 their arrival in Northern Ireland will be delayed until Tuesday, May 7.
As a result, and after consultation with BSB bosses, the North West 200 organisers will delay the start of this year’s practice and qualifying sessions until Wednesday, May 8.
There will also be a major rejig to the qualifying order at this year’s north coast event.
On Wednesday the traditional opening Newcomer session will now be followed by a one hour long Superbike qualifying session. On Thursday, the Superbikes will be the first machines on track.
Previously the Superbike qualifying sessions have
been the final sessions during both practice days. These sessions have sometimes been curtailed following delays during earlier qualifying sessions. The change for the 2024 event has been introduced at the request of the teams who say the powerful superbike machinery requires more set up time than other classes.

The new qualifying and race schedules for the 2024 NW200 on Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9 are as follows.

The Northwest Electrical Services Enniskillen 100 Revival ‘on tour’ Bishopscourt.

Ulster Superbike Championship Round 8 – Saturday 30 September 2023.

We held our round of the USBK on Saturday. After Qualifying and two races, we had the misfortune of an oil spill around the entire circuit, followed by continuous rain. After an hour and a half of cleaning the oil had been mostly lifted but now there was a lot of standing and running surface water at the back of the circuit. The stewards of the meeting it was decided the event would be abandoned.🌧

We put a lot of preparation into the event, we had a good entry and there were plenty of championships up for grabs. We too were upset with the outcome, but safety had to be our priority.

💥Prize Fund 💥

We know we cannot make up for lost points or lost laps, but following discussions with the club and sponsors, we have decided to allocate the prize fund based on qualifying results.

🏁The top three grid positions* will receive 1st,2nd, and 3rd place prize money. We appreciate in the grand scheme of things it may not be much - but this at least a token of our appreciation.🏁

💥BURROWS ENGINEERING RACING RETAINS BROWNE AND BURROWS FOR 2023💥

Burrows Engineering/RK Racing will retain Cork rider Mike Browne for a 4th season in 2023, whilst Jack Burrows will represent the team once again in the Ulster Superbike Championship aboard his Moto 3 Honda.

With 2022 being Mike’s first full season of racing aboard the Burrows machines after two Covid hit years, he managed to lift 3 road racing championship titles, despite a potential season ending crash at the Cookstown 100 in April. Jack Burrows managed to finish 3rd in his debut season on short circuits aboard his Moto 3, whilst he took 13 wins on his way to lifting the Irish Minibike MiniGP title.

The team plan to take part in selected national road races next year as well as the NW200, TT, Southern 100 and Macau Grand Prix. Jack will take part in selected Minibike races alongside a full season in the Irish Moto 3 championship.

TEAM PRINCIPAL - JOHN BURROWS

“I’m delighted to retain Mike for a 4th season with us, last year was the first year where we had a full calendar of racing together, and after the cookstown accident I thought the season was over. Mike’s speedy return at the TT and his performances throughout the fortnight gave me enough incentive to retain him for 2023 as I believe there is another level in him when he goes back to the island fully fit, as he has already shown by winning the 250cc Manx Grand Prix. Alongside the TT, Mike will finally make his Northwest 200 debut after missing out last year. Jack will be racing the Moto 3 for a second season and I’m excited to watch him progress, I believe he could go to England now and give a good account of himself but, unfortunately the age limit situation has left us at a bit of a stalemate until 2024, when he turns 14, the minimum age for the British Talent Cup. Also I am delighted to retain Charlotte Richardson of RK Racing as our title sponsor for a 5th year.”

CHARLOTTE RICHARDSON - MAIN SPONSOR

"I am very excited to be sponsoring the team again for 2023. Both Mike and Jack have so much more to bring and they, together with everyone on the team work so hard and are a joy to spend time with - I can’t wait to get going.”

MIKE BROWNE -

“I’m very happy to sign for John and the team for a 4th year. I feel very comfortable in the team and I work well with all the lads now. Last year started off badly with the injury at the Cookstown, and to be honest I probably came back a bit early at the TT and therefore carried the injury a bit all season, but we still managed to pick up 3 championships and had a good run at the TT. When I returned at the ManxGP I managed to take the win on the 250 and felt I really knew my way round with the extra track time at the TT, so it was worth coming back prematurely for. I’m excited to finally get to the Northwest 200 and make my debut as well as Macau. I’ve already started training harder than ever for next season and I hope to repay the boys for their hard work.”

JACK BURROWS -

“It will be great to be back racing for my dad in 2023 again, unfortunately I fell the wrong side of the age limits and will have to spend another year at home before heading to England in 2024 when I turn 14 to try and further my career but I guess that will do no harm. After winning my first championship on two wheels last year at the IMC I will now focus on the Moto 3 championship and just take in selected Minibike rounds through the season to keep me sharp. I can’t wait to get started.”
