FLOWER PSA: FREEZING TEMPERATURES
Most people assume the colder the better for the longevity of cut flowers but the opposite is true.
Temps below 34 degrees will freeze your flowers and turn them to mush. Even in as little time as carrying them from the grocery store to your car.
In this case I left these flowers from my styled shoot on Monday in the back of my car overnight the last two nights when it froze (don’t worry— these were and are still being composted) and those freezing temperatures EVEN inside my car turned these guys to mush.
Keep this in mind when planning large florals for a winter wedding (ex. outdoor pictures with your bouquet and florist transport)
And the best way around this issue: trash bags.
Throw a trash bag (or two) around your flowers when transporting them in freezing temperatures. If you are at the grocery store grab a few plastic bags to wrap around your flowers while you walk them to your car!
And don’t leave your flowers in a freezing car overnight if you plan on using/gifting/enjoying them for a little bit longer.

1. Not having any fresh florals incorporated into your wedding day. If there’s anything you really should consider doing… that would be to have your bouquet & boutonnière be fresh & made by a florist. Those are the MOST photographed floral items in a wedding so it’s absolutely worth the investment to have something created that you absolutely love 💐
2. Waiting too long to book. You DON’T have to have it all figured out in order to inquire. In fact, if a florist does expect you to have it all figured out prior to inquiring, they may not be the right fit 🤔
3. Overestimating what you can do on your own. As I’ve said before anyone is totally capable of doing their own wedding flowers but make sure you have a thoroughly thought out plan for how you are going to execute this. Flowers must be handled just days before your wedding and you could become so busy with other to-dos during that time. If you are going to attempt to do this on your own BE PREPARED and don’t underestimate the value of letting a professional take care of this for you.
4. Focusing too much on finding an “affordable” florist. The term affordable is RELATIVE— it means something different to everyone. So put some feelers out there and see what can be dreamed up by multiple florists before automatically going with the cheapest option sent your way.
5. Limiting your wedding color palette because you don’t know what to choose for your wedding colors. Florals are often where the color comes into play for your wedding look so ask your florist for their advice on what colors to incorporate IF you are wanting a more diverse color palette. We can help!!! 🎨

We custom built this welcome sign for @ally_buckley_ & daulton and added a color matched inlay to coordinate with her bridesmaids dresses. It also has hooks on the back so they can hang it in their home and add silk or dried flowers!
It’s such a unique way to incorporate florals in every detail of your day and can have a completely unique look depending on the vibe of your wedding!
These are available for order for any bride (not just petal collective brides) shoot us a message to inquire!

What an incredible project. Kenzie came to me inspired by the store fronts she saw in Europe. Where they decorate their shops to the nines for the holidays with fresh greenery!
This is what we came up with. It was a labor of love!
Just a quick hour drive from Omaha, make sure to keep an eye out for when @shoptheanchoredcollective launches their holiday hours!
My biggest pet peeve as a florist
It makes me sad when a client comes to me and says that people are telling them that their wedding vision is “weird” “non-traditional” “too trendy” or that “people don’t do that”.
Of course there are parameters that can restrict how realistic your flower filled dreams are such as budget, seasonality, the venue itself, or safety…
And your vision might be trendy, unique, or non traditional…
But that’s okay! What makes your vision special is that whatever look you are inspired by sparks happiness within you.
Whether that’s a minimal all white look, or you want color everywhere.
Maybe the backdrop you envision for your ceremony hasn’t been done before.
Or your reception centerpieces are totally out of the box!
No matter what, do what makes you happy because at the end of the day, your wedding is yours and yours only 💕
