Louis Armstrong said, “Music is life itself.” What a wonderful world it is when listening to Live music. And what a wonderful time we had last Wednesday with Guests Our Small Corner, Dave and Hev, and our Special Guest, Phil Chisnall and Lynne Strange. And we have had a wonderful time hosting The Oxton Acoustic Sessions throughout 2024 and for the last 20 months. Our thanks go out from us Hosts, Lawrie, John, and Trevor, to all those who have performed for us, all those who have hosted and helped, and above all, to all the fabulous people that have come to watch and listen, making for the most agreeable and enjoyable Wednesday evenings. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope to see you in what we hope is a very Happy New Year đŸ„ł

"Live music reminds us of our shared humanity. It’s a place where souls can dance freely."– Stevie Nicks. She’s not wrong. Souls have been dancing freely at Elixir Oxton again last Wednesday. As well as numbers from our hosts John and Trev, we had Slightly Foxed and Bernie supporting our Special Guest, Rainshadows, launching the new album by Lawrence Quigley, “Shadow in The Rain”. A great songwriter accompanied by a virtuoso Violinist, Jim Walker. Wonderful stuff. Now for the last gig of the year this Wednesday
..Come on down. Our Hosts and this week’s Guests Our Small Corner and Dave Carrington will be performing in support of our Special Guest, the well known and respected and seasoned local singer / songwriter, Phil Chisnall, accompanied by Lynne Strange. Last chance for you to appreciate how lucky we are to live in leafy Oxton where great times can be had appreciating local musical talent for free in a cosy and friendly wine and cocktail bar, even on a mid-week Wednesday. Free entry from 7 til 10 pm.

Neil Young said, “Live music is better” which pretty much says it all. Get off Spotify and the radio and get to Elixir Oxton on Wednesdays from 7pm and see live music from The Oxton Acoustic Sessions. Last Wednesday was fabulous, with the driving force that is Americana /roots rockers Creakin' Gates as Special Guests. They were ably supported by Invited Guests Dawn Williams Singersongwriter, Jonny, and David R Cooke, as well as hosts John and Lawrie and Trev. Every week is different, with different performers. This Wednesday is a Special -Special Guest slot for us. Our very own host Lawrence Quigley, published artist and singer-songwriter, will launch his new album ‘Shadow in the Rain’ live for us, with Jim Walker accompanying on violin, as the duo, Rain Shadows. Don’t miss this one. Superb original songs of Life and Love. And great support will be on offer from Helen Delamere, Jim Pearson Music, Slightly Foxed and Bernie. A very friendly and warm and welcoming vibe in a lovely venue. Great food and drink, and free live music. On your doorstep. See you there.

Another great evening of free love and music at Elixir Oxton last Wednesday, with the superb The Folk Doctors as Special Guests, supported by Pippa Murdie, Phil and Jean, Vou Vou Wyld, our hosts Lawrence Quigley and The Leonard Cohen Guy, and
a surprise and extremely welcome drop-in by the hugely talented soul man MT JONES , fresh back from a USA tour! 😼. Now we look forward to next Wednesday and what promises to be a great and lively night, with the very popular and very entertaining Americana /roots band, Creakin' Gates (no ‘g’). They will rock the place. And they will be supported by David R Cooke, Dawn Williams Singersongwriter and the intensely soothing brogue of Johnny, plus hosts. Jimmy Hendrix said: “Music is a safe kind of high”. It’s different here every week, and getting safely high at Elixir with The Oxton Acoustic Sessions is the best way to spend your Wednesday evening in Oxton. 7pm. Free entry. ♄

As Plato said: “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” That was around 2600 years ago, so he must have meant Live music. Just like at Elixir Oxton every week from 7 til 10pm. Around eight fresh performances, week after week. Last Wednesday our fabulous Special Guest singer songwriter Grace Elizabeth Harvey was supported by varied numbers from our 3 hosts, and Invited Guests Trevor Smith, Our Small Corner, poet Paul Rowlands, and local legends Nik and Dave. Now we look to this coming Wednesday and returning Special Guests the revered The Folk Doctors will close the evening, supported by 6 others individuals, including duo Phil and Jean, Pippa Murdie, and Vou Vou Wyld. Join Plato and all of us at The Oxton Acoustic Sessions by 7pm for a free evening’s entertainment in Oxton’s cosy restaurant and cocktail bar.

“Without music, life would be a mistake” said Friedrich Nietzsche. And he wasnt even kidding. And of course, it was 1880, so he meant Live Music. Oxtonites had the pleasure at Elixir Oxton last Wednesday of The Oxton Acoustic Sessions hosting their weekly evening of 3 hours of live acoustic music, with our usual hosts, and our wonderful Special Guest Dawn Williams Singersongwriter, supported by our Invited Guest friends; The Tom Crosby Show , Dave Carrington, Glyn Jones, and the fabulous Red Letter Road. We are there every week from 7pm til 10, and this Wednesday the glorious voice and guitar of our Special Guest Grace Elizabeth Harvey will make a live and real connection with our emotions. There will also be our usual hosts and the spoken word, from poet Paul Rowlands (a first!), and another of our West Kirby great friends Trevor Smith, and the driving misty folk of Our Small Corner. 9 different performers! It’s only Live music that will connect with your heart and emotions, so why not unplug from the Matrix, get off the couch and come and spend a sociable evening with like-minded friends you haven’t met yet. ♄

Me old mate Ludwig Van Beethoven said “Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life" There was no Spotify then, so he meant Live music. And if he’d have seen the show by The Oxton Acoustic Sessions at Elixir Oxton on Wednesday, he would have said ‘told you so’. Love was in the air thanks to the connection with Special Guests Steve and Phil aka T.M.I Too Much Information, ably supported by Invited Guests Mal Price, the inimitable Creakin' Gates, and the exquisite Irish brogue that is Johnny. Not to mention us hosts, John Armstrong, Lawrence Quigley, and the Leonard Cohen Guy. Ludwig would also be emotionally stirred about next Wednesday from 7pm, when we look forward to seeing and hearing Glyn Jones, The Tom Crosby Show and John Williams of Red Letter Road and Dave Carrington supporting Special Guest, the fabulous Dawn Williams Singersongwriter. It’s only Oxton and it’s only Wednesday but you really should be there

Momentum is building nicely at Elixir Oxton for The Oxton Acoustic Sessions. We are not an open mic nor are we ‘background music’ We are a music collective of now over 50 artists providing a ’show’ for a listening audience in the lovely bar here at Elixir in the characterful heart of Oxton Village. In essence, an entirely unique experience on the Wirral. More and more musicians are approaching us to take part. Diners are also appreciating the varied and free live music that is adding to their experience in the dining area. Subdued lighting, cocktails and lovely food available, very friendly ambience, and all in all attracting a number of people that would otherwise be languishing at home on a Wednesday evening in Oxton! We were lavishly entertained last Wednesday by our fabulous Special Guest, Jamie Clague of The JCB. He was supported by 6 other individual performers over our 3-hour set. And more to come next Wednesday from 7 til 10 pm now with our usual hosts, plus local musicians, Creakin' Gates, Mal Price, John Armstrong of The Folk Doctors, and artist Lawrence Quigley, and Special Guests

John Walsh was superb last Wednesday! Accompanied by Anita, their seasoned experience and consummate musical artistry shone through. A great portfolio of Irish/ Folk/ Roots numbers from laments, to stomping-clapping Ceili; a delight to listen to and to behold. Each supporting guest was fabulous too: Ollie Gosling Hughes showcased great originals, as did Jessica Dives Music (check out her new single), and Friday Live at West Kirby Arts Centre songwriting contest winner Mike Eastaugh and daughter Esme. We at The Oxton Acoustic Sessions are proud of and delighted with the superior level of guests we have inspired and aspired to in our short 16 months of existence, and it just seems to get better and better. We have become a ‘hub’ where devoted musicians and performers can express themselves and showcase their talent for your delight, in the pleasant environs of the heart of the Wirral. We look forward to more of the same yet to come, as we now take a summer recess break for just a short while. Watch this space for what’s yet to come 🙏
