It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, Kathy Jenkins, founder of Socks the Oatman B***o & Friends at Oatman B***os Sanctuary Big Red Barn in Mojave Valley, Arizona. Her dedication to wild b***os of that region transformed countless lives, both animals and humans. Kathy created the sanctuary to care for b***os & horses in need- injured, unwanted, or victims to collisions on roadways, giving them a safe place to heal, giving each one a name, a story, & a safe place to call home. She worked tirelessly alongside local agencies, responding to b***os hit on roads, helping to coordinate rescue and recovery efforts. Through her work, she raised awareness for these iconic animals of the American West who so often go overlooked.
Kathy’s legacy is one of compassion in action, community engagement, & true unwavering love for b***os & horses. The sanctuary she founded stands as a tribute to that, a place where animals are seen, valued, and cared for. Please join in honoring Kathy. For every b***o & horse that found hope under her care, a new story began. Let’s share our memories of her kindness, her dedication, & the lives she touched. If you have photos, stories, or thoughts of Kathy and her work, feel free to post them below in memory of a woman who truly made a difference.
Many of the animals at the sanctuary have special medical needs, and Kathy never turned away a b***o in need of extra care. In her memory, we invite donations to continue her life’s work and ensure these beautiful souls receive the love and healing they deserve.
To honor her memory and continue her mission, donations may be made to Socks the Oatman B***o & Friends at Oatman B***os Sanctuary Big Red Barn. Contributions will support the many animals with ongoing medical and daily care needs- the very work that defined Kathy’s life. Donations in memory of Kathy may be made here:
