Did you know that most paper plates can't be recycled?♻️

Paper that has been in contact with food, especially anything wet or greasy, often won’t qualify for recycling. This means it will end up as landfill waste.

In addition, the shiny plastic coating that keeps most paper plates waterproof, will stop the material from decomposing. This means the plates are non-biodegradable and cannot be composted.

The other thing is, they can actually take a very long time to decompose when not in the right settings. If sent to landfill, the paper plates could take up to five years to decompose.

There’s currently more paper than plastic in the UK’s landfill sites. Why add to the problem? Choose to reuse and have a waste free party.💚🌏

I am very happy to say that my party kits have avoided *2,802 disposable items from use this year. That is an increase of 792 items from last year!🎉🎉

Counted as part of the Party Kit Network annual audit from 1st August 2024 to 31st July 2025.

All of my themed party kits include a 2m long, wipe clean tablecloth, to complement the colours and theme.🎉

You can also choose to add one or more, to any party kit, for an additional £2. I have several designs to choose from... you'll find one to suit any occasion.

You can choose between pastel or rainbow colours, or even a mix of colours to complement your party theme.

I've had a lot of new followers recently, so I thought I'd show my face and introduce myself.

My name is Sophie, and I set up Planet Friendly Parties in 2020. My aim was to reduce the amount of party waste sent to landfill in Norfolk, by providing people with an affordable alternative.

I am a member of the Party Kit Network, a non-profit organisation, working to make parties more sustainable. When I discovered the network, I thought it was such a great idea that I decided it was something I wanted to be part of.

Since July 2020, members of the Party Kit Network have logged over 1 MILLION single-use items avoided through party kit hires — disposable plates, cups, bowls, and cutlery that were never purchased or sent to landfill.

A bit about me:

Hello, my name is Sophie and I run Planet Friendly Parties, Norfolk. I’m based in Taverham but happy to hire out to the surrounding areas.

I have made many changes in my life over the past year, trying to live in a way that is better for my family and for the planet. The most noticeable change being to considerably reduce our use of single use plastics. I found that it was quite easy to make a few basic changes at home and wondered what I could do within the wider community. As a mother of two children, I have hosted many birthday parties where all of the tableware has been thrown in the bin after one use. By hiring out reusable party kits I can provide an affordable alternative to disposable partyware and reduce waste, making parties more sustainable. I was shocked to discover that the Party Kit Network save over 900 thousand items from landfill each year!

My kits provide everything you need for a colourful fun-filled party without the waste, including: reusable plates, cups, bowls, cutlery, jugs and serving platters. These come in two different colour ranges, rainbow and pastel. I am able to offer sets catering for up to 30 people. I also offer optional extras such as fabric bunting and coordinating wipe clean table cloths.
