Yes!!!

THERE ARE NO SMALL ACTS OF KINDNESS. It's truly amazing what the ripple effect of a SMILE, a HUG, A WORD or lending a helping hand can have in another's and our own lives. xo

"Heading home this afternoon, I saw an older white woman lying flat out on the sidewalk on the corner of Peoria and 49th Street, with a young Asian woman trying to talk to her. I did a quick U-turn and pulled into the parking lot of Burger Street just as another car pulled in. I jumped out of my car at the same time that a young black man jumped out of his. We both did a quick check and found that the woman was using a walker and had fallen backwards hitting her head on the cement. I said I would call 911, the young black man went to his car got a soft jacket, and gently placed it under her head to shield her head from the scorching cement sidewalk (it was 100 degrees today). Soon other angels began to arrive. One young white woman got an umbrella out of her car to shield the woman’s face from the sun, and another got towels out of her car to place under the woman’s bare arms. A young Hispanic employee from Burger Street came out with a bucket of clean, cool water and a rag to place on her forehead. We all: Black, white, Asian, and Hispanic worked together to aid an older white woman who had fallen. This is the America I love and believe in. One with compassion, kindness, and love, regardless of race, age or s*x." - Cindy Wagoner Webb

It's no secret that we love to can. Having food stocked in your own pantry is one of the ways you can be prepared for those times when the unexpected happens. The great thing about canning is that you don't have to do a lot at one time if you don't want to, our don't have the ingredients for a large amount on hand.

If you want to learn how to safely preserve your own food through canning, register today for the next set of workshops, that will be held on September 10, 2023 at Quesnel Seniors Centre.

Details can be found by scanning the QR Code in the image, or on our by clicking the link to the registration form here --> https://form.jotform.com/231931060826250

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.

Running a business is really hard!

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.
Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work-life balance.

You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All while being a dog parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed.
It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives.

Be kind, be patient, support small businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

And know that 2022 prices are not 2023 prices.

I copied this from another small business owner that I support!
Please support small business!🩷💯💯

I have not seen these in our food stores but do check labels!

⚠️ Warning!!
Just a little warning for all who are canning pickles or anything using vinegar. This year you cannot just grab a plastic jar of vinegar or even pickling vinegar without checking the label. ******Safe pickling requires 5% acidity....for the first time we are seeing 4% acidity vinegar... on the shelves. 🙄 That renders anything pickled in the 4% NOT shelf stable. There are several percentages of vinegar’s out there, be sure to check those labels or you could be throwing out many jars of unsafe pickled veggies.

Sending out a huge thank you to all the people who helped make the Spring 2023 Taste, Sip & Shop happen this past weekend.

It was a really tough week. I lost my only sibling a few days before the event. My sister-in-law lost her husband, and we all lost our best friend.

Thank you to all the vendors who shared their art, crafts and products of all sorts. Thank you to the community members who came out to support the event. Thank you to Barkerville Brewing Co for the craft beer sampling. Thank you to Jeff for helping out at the last minute, and to Jennifer for the wonderful video. And, a special thank you to Tawni, Linda, Cheryl, Jessie and Ron for keeping the mocktails flowing and the abundance of delicious food...
