20/03/2023

To all of our wrestling brothers and sisters we are writing to share some exciting news! We are excited to announce we have opened the “Scrap Lab”. What in the world is the Scrap Lab? Let us start by saying what it is not. It is NOT a club! Clubs have: gear, monthly or season dues, go to tournaments, attendance expectations, conditioning, dual teams and more. The Scrap Lab is a place to train wrestling. It is a facility for wrestlers of all ages, gender and ability to come and train. We DO NOT want you to leave your club. We DO NOT have an interest in taking ANY credit for a wrestler’s success. There are many great clubs locally. If you need one DM me and I’ll put you in touch with one of them. We have commitments from some great wrestling coaches and minds and are always looking for more to run practice and get paid to do so. Let us be clear. THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKER. Quite the opposite. It is a money loser and we are good with that! When a coach runs practice at the Scrap Lab he keeps the fee generated from the wrestlers in attendance. I will say if we start to get great attendance at some point we would like to build up a “Coaches fund” because we are going to guarantee a certain amount to run a practice and should we not get many kids on a given night we’d like to not have to keep going into our pockets to pay coaches (but that’s a ways off).

How does it work?
The address is: 2605 S. 156 Circle
Practice will be from 6:00-7:45 Monday (3/20) to Thursday (3/24)
Cost will be 10 dollars cash (we have Venmo but are working on a more permanent solution stand by)
You MUST have a valid U.S.A. wrestling card to attend
Each wrestler must have a release signed by a parent prior to the first practice (they will be available at the lab)
Todd Meneely will be running practice all week and we will be training freestyle
After this week the cost will be 15 dollars per practice
We will be limiting practice this week to the first 20 or so wrestlers.
Private lessons are available. DM me for pricing and times and again, the money goes to the coach.

Sorry for the long post! Let’s goooooo!!!!

We concluded our second event tonight and it was perfect. Great wrestling, great officiating, a great venue and so much help.

I’d like to send out a special Thank you to Gross Catholic High School, Coach Justin Hampton, Coach Dustin Franks and Coach Mike Dempsey. Coach Chas DeVetter you came up big for us again!

Our featured group tonight delivered! We had throws, blood, cuts, last second wins and when it was all done sportsmanship! Kael, Gable, Zach and Tucker you guys were men among boys.

Parents what a great job of remaining positive and letting your kids succeed and fail on their own. It’s tough but 2 weeks in a row ZERO issues. Well done!

Please be on the lookout for the next one! I leave with 1 question...

Why not show up and get some matches?

If anyone wants to be a part of our featured group please DM me and I’ll get it set up.

Have a great weekend and seriousky thanks for the support. This is all about the kids!!!!

Let’s goooooo!!! We just got confirmation our next Metro Wrestling League - Friday Night Lights will be held at Omaha Gross Catholic High School’s practice football field on Saturday September 5th starting at 5:00 pm. The address is: 7700 S. 43rd St. The field is on the South Side of the school. We are working on getting a few key matches you will want to see set up! A few points of emphasis:

1. The forecast says a high of 80 for 9/5 and there are no lights at the field so we will be starting earlier at 5:00.
2. No coaching, filming or acting like and idiot. This went really well but we did have some filming taking place and that is a no no. I allowed a match to be filmed at our last one and in retrospect that was a mistake. I had what I thought was the required permissions but nevertheless was not what I committed to so I apologize.
3. Setup will begin at 3:30 and we will meet at the GHS wrestling room. I’ll be honest we didn’t have enough setup help last time. I’m hoping my South Omaha family will come through!
4. We are going to stick with the same format as last time but if kids want to wrestle get out there and wrestle.
5. There are NO bleachers. BRING A LAWN CHAIR! There will be no fans or parents down on the field.
6. Masks are required, along with a waiver, temp check, 10 dollar entry fee and social distancing is a must.
7. We will provide drinks for a buck. Gatorade and water.

Special thanks to Coach Justin Hampton for getting us into this great venue. Cody Allen Mainquist for getting the word out on what we are doing and Jason Johnson and Coach Chas DeVetter for their efforts last week.

All ages are welcome, we ask that the wrestlers wear singlets, no head gear is required and Paul Martinez, Chad Martinez, Dave Walton and Taylor McCord I am sending up the bat signal again. We need you!!!!!

Let’s gooooooo!!!!!!!

The Inaugural Metro Wrestling League - Friday Night Lights is a wrap. The turnout was great and it seems like we did something pretty special. There are too many people to thank individually because so many people came together to make this a reality. There were kids who put it all on the line and risked their health, reputation, record and status to test themselves. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this so special. On to the next one!!!! Be on the lookout for all the details!!!!

21/08/2020

We are so close to our first ever Metro Wrestling League - Friday Night Lights (on Saturday 8/22 ironically). A few points of emphasis:

-We have moved the setup time to 4:30 if anyone can help setup. If so please be at the Skutt Wrestling room at 4:30.
-Wrestling will start at 6:00.
-We will have a waiver form the parents/guardians will have to sign prior to wrestling.
-We will be conducting temperature checks, requiring masks for spectators and participants while not wrestling.
-We are asking all fans to sit in the bleachers and limit their time on the field unless shuttling your wrestler to the mats.
-Cost is 10 dollars per wrestler.
-This is our first one of these so please expect some disorganization as it’s a work in progress!!!!
-We will be cleaning the mats periodically, there will no ankle bands as well.
-We will have water and Gatorade available for sale for a dollar (with proceeds going to Skutt Wrestling).

Lastly... NO coaching, filming or acting like an idiot. There are a lot of people watching to see if we can pull this off and maybe even a few who are hoping we can’t and that’s totally OK... I know the wrestling community can come together and make this so special. I don’t know about you but I’m stoked!!! Let’s gooooo!!!!

2. No filming
3. Please wear a singlet
4. Skutt is requiring all spectators to maintain proper social distancing and to wear masks.
5. Wrestling will begin at around 6:00 please consider getting there earlier to stretch and warm up and maybe even help set up!
6. We will have a COVID waiver that will need to be signed.
7. Cost is 10 dollars.

We are excited about this event and the response has been awesome. Please remain patient and remember this is our first one!

10/07/2020

Good morning everyone! The response to the Metro Wrestling League - Friday Night Lights has been unbelievable. I have received a lot of DMs asking questions from people maybe not all that sure how this is going to work or why we are doing this. That’s easy...

Basketball, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball etc. do “open gyms” where there is minimal organization or coach involvement to let players play. We are applying that to wrestling. It is going on in other parts of the country with great success so why not try it here? I have had several high school guys reach out and ask if they can wrestle someone they’re never going to get a chance to wrestle and that’s cool too but the ultimate goal is to get kids on the mat to get better, have fun in a pressure free environment, get some matches in and learn.

This is not a money maker or any crap like that! If we come together and give it an honest effort it can’t fail!!! Try it you just might get something out of it!!!!

05/07/2020

We are targeting 8/22/20 (yes we know it’s a Saturday) 6:00-8:30 for our inaugural event. The goal is to do it under the lights on a football field (weather permitting). We have a venue selected and are waiting for the “go-ahead” from the AD. In the event there is bad weather there will be an indoor option as well.

STAY TUNED we hope to see everyone soon!!!

30/06/2020

2 questions...

1. What’s the match that happened you wish you could have seen live.

2. What’s the match you wish would have happened and never did?

30/06/2020

A few of us are going to start some Friday night lights duals in some various rooms. Here’s what we are thinking...

1. No weighins, coaching or videoing all ages welcome!!! High school to Pre-K.
2. 10 bucks a kid this will pay for refs and cleanup at the room.
3. No set teams just group the kids up and let’s wrestle.
4. No track wrestling! So everyone can keep their 5 star ranking.
5. Friday can be Saturdays or Sundays as well.
6. Must have a USA wrestling card.
7. Let’s cut the bu****it and get the kids from ALL clubs wrestling.
8. No recruiting of any kind.
9. Last and MOST important. No s**t talking, fighting or any of that crap if you lose get better. If you win get better.

This is 100% what the best states in the country are doing right now. I promise this can be a good thing and could be the start of something awesome.

Like, share, tag and comment if you’re in to wrestle and you have a room we can use. We will need two full mats and some sort of seating area.

Chas DeVetter Matt Vacanti Dan Furze Clayton Grice Jim Lauridsen Ryan Terry Brett Allgood James Jimmy Rodgers Mike Mixan Cole Hothan Jesse Caniglia Justin Hampton Tim Dickey Dan Parrish Brian Peska Andy Pokorny Alan Pokorny Todd Meneely Jay Meneely Matt Rein Cory Caniglia Dustin Terry Daniel Eugene Cardenas Scott Porter Keith Massey Brant Meink Ty Copsey Jimmy Waters Chad Engel Josh Akerson Trevor Templar Clint McAlister John Mirasola Ryan Braun Shawn Thomas Brandon Baustert Sr.

I close by saying this is about the kids and I give my word as a man I will set any and all differences I have with anyone in this sport aside for the kids to get better. I know we all can!!!!

30/06/2020

Here it is... this is literally my best effort to make a page. Please like the page and follow it. The goal is to start wrestling in mid August!!!

LFG!!!!!!!
