A group of residents have met with the Gippsland Climate Change Network (GCCN) who are keen to get funding for an EV charging station in Swifts Creek, and the agreement was that one parking bay in the parking area by the steam engine (pop the CFA) would be most suitable. This is where campers and caravan drivers tend to park to use the public toilet, so it would be most useful for them, as well as providing encouragement for visitors to spend a bit more time in Swifts exploring (Poets Walk, Swifts Creek Bakery, Pub). If you think this is a good idea, you can recommend this in your feedback.

Swifts Creek Public Realm Plan East Gippsland Shire Council is partnering with Fraser Design Collaborative to prepare the Public Realm Masterplan for Swifts Creek. The Public Realm for Swifts Creek refers to features and places such as the Recreation Reserve, the Skate

Resilient Ready has been collaborating with the Omeo Region Community Recovery Association (ORCRA) to run a bespoke project to map social capital across six hubs in the region.

This 4-month project has focussed on building local understanding and acceptance of the important role social capital (people connections) and social infrastructure (places where people connect) plays in building community preparedness to unexpected events. For more information please visit the project webpage.

We are excited to invite you to the Free Live Webinar, and join global social capital expert Professor Daniel Aldrich on how social ties build resilience in the Omeo Region. You will also learn about Omeo Region social mapping report findings from Renae Hanvin and Fiona Jago at Resilient Ready.

We are now further towards being able to replace the ageing and rusty roof at the Hall with a 25k grant from the Foundation of Rural and Regional Renewal. Yay! With the 25k from the Gippsland Community Foundation we are getting closer to the cost. Fingers crossed for the application to the East Gippsland Shire Council's community grant.

We're almost finished the upgrade of the Hall and the site visit yesterday revealed just a few things to finish off.

So now the committee is looking at getting new energies and ideas to take this beautiful hall to the next phase of its life - whatever that it. Does this sound like you? Please consider joining the committee and bringing your skills, experiences and ideas to the Hall committee.

Our staff travel in mobile service centres (MSCs) to rural and regional areas to help people with our services and payments.

The Swifts Creek Hall has been undergoing substantial renovations over the past year or so, courtesy of a grant from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Fund.

This includes the complete upgrading of the kitchen with commercial standard oven, fridge and freezer; renovation of the old supper room as a mid-sized meeting space, and the establishment of a multi-function space at the rear of the hall, complete with toilets and showers.

Now that the Hall is nearing completion, the committee would very much welcome additional committee members to shape the next phase of growth.

We would also welcome volunteers who may not want to be on a committee, but would happily set up working groups to look at project such as:

• Creating the hall as a welcoming community space
• Promoting the Hall as an event space (weddings, dances, auctions)
• Creating and marketing event packages
• Organising events
• Increasing the Hall’s internet presence
• New initiatives
• Anything else

Please comment here if you are interested - or contact Pauline Fox if you know her (contact details not included for privacy reasons).
