Thank you lovely people of Gamlingay for turning out to make yesterday’s event such a success! We counted 3000 people at one point. The food vendors and the marshals (in black) were full of praise for everyone’s politeness, patience and good humour which only goes to enhance Gamlingay’s reputation as being a great community. Special thanks to our volunteers, especially Gary who walked round litter picking for hours and collected 50 bags. Hope you all had a great time. X

Great to see you Gamlingay! Happy Jubilee!

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the 1st Gamlingay Rainbows and 1st Gamlingay Brownies have been creating images of the Queen to display and find around the village.

Seven images from the groups, one to celebrate each decade of the Queen’s reign, can be found displayed at seven local businesses in Mill Street and Church Street. Can you find them all? (Clue: check out the Eco Hub as well!)

We hope you are as excited about the 'big event' on the field behind the Eco Hub on Saturday as we are! Here is the line up:

From 12 noon - stage, screen and bands setting up
3pm - our resident DJ David Sammel kicks off with some tunes to get you in the mood!
3.30pm Benefit of the Tape (live band)
5pm Freddie Hall band (live band)
6.30pm Subject to change (live band)
8 pm - 10.30 pm The Queens Platinum Concert (live broadcast on the screen)

Our DJ will provide music to fill in any gaps. Come along any time you want and stay as long as you want, enjoy some food from our vendors or bring your own, bring tables and chairs and blankets. Dogs are welcome on a lead, gazebos are fine as long as they don't block views of the stage or screen for others. The portaloos are for use by everyone, and there will be controlled access to the Hub for disabled toilets. The Kingspan hall will be open as a 'quiet room' for anyone who needs it, otherwise the Hub will not be open for general access. We look forward to seeing you there!

We've got a few of these great little Jubilee Activity Packs left in the Hub, so pick up yours if you haven't already got it! I have given out nearly 200 to the people organising neighbourhood parties, so your organiser may already have one for you if you are taking part in a local get together. There were a couple of people who requested a pack from me but didn't give me their address so I couldn't deliver, so please get yours from the Hub. Inside there are games, recipes, songs, quizzes and lots more to keep you occupied over the long weekend. Have fun!!

Slightly odd request, but we are hoping someone can help out! We have the offer of 2000 free ice creams for the Big Event on Saturday night 4th June but have nowhere to store them! Has anyone got a chest freezer they could lend us for the evening? We can then dole them out to everyone attending (and who doesn't love a free ice cream!)

Just three more days to get your entries in for our 'design a cover for the Jubilee' competition, so please put pen to paper, or do something on your laptop to create a winning design for the front cover of our Jubilee Activity pack! Entries can be posted through the letterbox of the Eco Hub, or taken into reception if the Hub is open. We've had some lovely ideas so far, so look forward to seeing some more!

We are getting some great entries into our cover pack competition! If the weather isn't too great, why not encourage your child to take an hour to create something brilliant for the Jubilee? All entries to be taken to the Eco Hub - you can post it through the letter box if the Hub is closed.

For the Queen's Jubilee weekend, we are creating a free Activity Pack for everyone in Gamlingay who is holding or attending a neighbourhood party. It will have games, quizzes, photos, recipes and much more to help your party go with a swing.

But we need a front cover from a talented child in Gamlingay!

Open to ALL children/youths, entry categories are Under 8s, 8-11s and 11 - 16s.
The winners of each category will receive a prize!

Your theme will be around the Queen’s Jubilee, the last 70 years and must make reference to Gamlingay. All the designs will be displayed as part of the celebrations and the winners of each category will have their design on the cover of the pack.

To enter, please create your design on a sheet of A4 paper and hand it into the Village Primary or the Eco Hub. Don't forget to put your name, age, and the name and phone number of a parent or guardian so that we can contact you.

Entries close on Friday 1st April. Best of luck!!

Could you give a little time to help us on Saturday 4th June and Sunday morning 5th June with the Jubilee Celebrations? We will be in need of about 15 volunteers in total, each doing 2-4 hours maximum during the day on Saturday, at some point between 9am - 11pm. We will need help with managing parking, stewarding, setting up tents, helping welcome the food vendors and live bands, picking litter, checking everyone is OK, and helping to clear up on the Sunday morning for up to 2 hours.
If you have any time to spare, we'd love to hear from you, just message me at [email protected]. Thank you!

Some information that came in from Cambridgeshire County Council, is worth sharing if anyone in the village is thinking of planting a tree for the Jubilee as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC).

"The aim of the QGC is to create a network of individual trees, avenues, copses and whole woodlands in honour of The Queen's service and the legacy she has built. This will create a green legacy of its own, with every tree planted bringing benefits for people, wildlife and climate, now and for the future. You can find out more about what, where and when to plant at The Queen's Green Canopy Project - Cambridgeshire County Council. Once you have planted your tree(s), don’t forget to log it on the national map: Map - The Queen’s Green Canopy (queensgreencanopy.org).

Also, do run it past the Parish Council first unless it's on private land!

We are so pleased with how plans are going for the celebrations, we've booked three local live bands, the big 45 metre screen, a DJ, food vendors and the bar for the big event at the Eco Hub on Saturday evening, and you can look forward to a cracking evenings entertainment for the whole family!

If you are having your own party at some point over the holiday weekend, we are busy putting together an activity pack to help it go with a swing, which will contain games, quizzes, recipes, some fun with Gamgy speak and lots more. Most of the items in the pack will be contributed by one of the community groups in the village or individuals and the front cover will be a design by the winner of a very special competition soon to be announced! We hope it will be a really personal souvenir for Gamlingay on this very historic occasion.

Thanks to the very generous donations we have already received from local businesses, and if you are a local business and would like to be a sponsor, please do get in touch.

Hi everyone, after some consideration, we felt that to offer a separate, paid for area within the Eco Hub at the evening event where 70 people could have a special meal and 'VIP' status, would be divisive for the village and go against the ideal to bring the community together. The original idea was to use this to raise some revenue, but we have decided not to, and to just go ahead with a free for all event. We are approaching local businesses for sponsorship for this event, and hope to raise some revenue this way.

If anyone reading this feels they could give a donation to the event (either privately or as a 'sponsor') we would be extremely grateful. You can send expressions of interest, in confidence, to [email protected].

This article will be appearing in the next Gazette, to explain a bit more about the plans for the Jubilee Saturday on 4th June here in Gamlingay. We hope people will want to organise their own events during the day, either as a public party or a private one, and if you let us know about it, we can support it with an activity pack and perhaps some entertainment. Then it's everyone down to the Eco Hub for the main evening event, where we will be televising the Queens Concert out on the recreation field on a giant screen, there will be live bands and a variety of food on sale! Please keep in touch with our page to keep up with more details as we have them and feel free to message and comment on it!

We are a small group of volunteers who have come together to organise fun stuff in Gamlingay, and this page is where you will find out what is happening in the village and when. The official weekend is Thursday 2nd June - Sunday 5th June, and our events are happening on the Saturday 4th June but there may be other public events also happening in Gamlingay, and we will be asking for news and information on these from the organisers in due course.
