In Fall 2022, Bethy and Edom began diving into skills that were specific to the Eritrean Culture. We were both getting better at coffee and Bethy discovered her wonderful ability to bake Himbasha (Eritrean Pastry Bread). While this was happening with the support and planning of our sisters, Sulakha and Betty, we were offered to be presenters at a Coffee and Tea event for East African families in the Capital Hill Library. Bethy made Himbasha for the event and Edom hosted an Eritrean Coffee Ceremony. It was very successful, so we knew we could work together and make this bigger and better. Following that event, we were independently contracting as a team to provide the products, along with giving glimpses of the experience that we grew up with in our homes. Through sharing this process we could see others valued this experience and loved the taste of what we made. While we were hesitant at times, Bethy pushed us to believe in the vision. We both knew this could further our connection to our culture, allow others to discover our beautiful country and offer products that bring people together. We have catered to families, Multnomah County Library, and SEI staff at David Douglas High School. Now a year later, we hosted another event with the library and couldn’t be more inspired by all of your support. That being said, we hope to see you in more community spaces and markets this year.
