Swazi Rally is Celebrating Female Bikers on South Africa’s Women’s Day 🌹
Meet Barbara Paiva, established entrepreneur, mother of 2 and biker!
💥What inspired you to start riding motorcycles?
“I have been riding since the age of 3, ever since I started riding a motorcycle I have not gotten off. I think its just in my blood. The best part about riding Motorcycles is the freedom, it gives you a chance to let go and breathe in the fresh air and the open road ahead.”
💥What challenges have you faced as a woman biker, and how have you overcome them?
“Biking has always been considered a man’s game, being a female biker comes with its own set of challenges, being excluded, being looked down upon, because you are a female, things are however changing. There are way more women on bikes nowadays and thats something to be really proud of.”
💥What’s your most memorable ride or biking adventure?
“We did a charity run a few years ago and one of the most memorable experiences was being in front with two of the fastest and most talented riders in the country, and being able to keep up. Another one was when I would do enduro challenges, the trails were steep and rocky and extremely tricky, a female friend of mine and I would kick butt up there and get to the top/ finish before the guys, without falling off!”
💥How do you think women bikers are changing the perception of the biking community?
“Well as I said before there are a lot more women on bikes these days and it just goes to show that nothing can stop a woman if she puts her mind to it. To all the women that are on bikes, keep it up. We can do it too.”
💥What advice would you give to women who are considering taking up motorcycling?
“Go for it! Get the lessons, buy the bike, get the correct riding gear. You will not regret it! Explaining what Motorcycle riding does for a person is difficult, it’s one of those things you need to try and experience for yourself. Come on ladies we can do it. Who runs the world? Girls.”
