✨Collective Effervescence✨
Something I always remember from my university days was the French sociologist Emile Durkheim’s concept of “collective effervescence”- that powerful energy that arises when people come together, united by shared emotion, meaning, and purpose. This weekend I had the good fortune to get to attend the Eras tour in Vancouver, where I got to be a part of a crowd of 60 000 strangers singing and dancing in unison to their favourite songs… the joy in that stadium felt like it could light up the whole world.
It struck me that this is so similar to what I get to witness at every wedding I officiate. Two people sharing their vows, surrounded by majestic mountains and those who love them the most- the air hums with connection, hope, and celebration.
Whether it’s screaming the words to “All Too Well 10 minute version” or witnessing a love story unfold in real time, these moments remind me why we gather: to honor love, joy, and everything that makes life worth living.
To Taylor, thank you for the reminder that magic exists when we come together. To my couples, thank you for trusting me to help create your own unforgettable moments of connection and synchronicity. 💍💖
