The first post. Warning, kinda long story. You could just listen to the tune, I won't be offended, haha 😁
In the spirit of the page and original music, I thought I would explain how this song came to be. I hope everyone feels free to tell the story of their songs themselves. I for one would love to hear them 🎶
My favorite thing to do is wright and record songs. They live forever ya know. I really try to make the story of the song have meaning and be about a real thing in my life. Something others might relate to. I grew up listening to my favorite bands and I knew every word. I always wondered what they were thinking. Did that really happen ? What do they really mean ? All our friends would debate it to the end. Lyrics are the best. Also, guitar solos and great grooves.
To make it a bit easier on myself I decided to post a song I wrote and recorded with my band in 1996. I have posted it before so sorry its not a new one. I will record some of the songs I wrote at CYM and some real new ones soon.
So, about this song.
The leads on this recording are awesome. I wish I could tell you it was me. I'm singing. This is a 6 piece band called Box. I love these people. When we're out west we live in Leadville Colorado. We love this town but it can make folks a little crazy. Can't stay to long. At this time we had been home a bit to long. We were all going a little mad and longing for the road and our PA home down the mountain. The town was 10,200 feet at the base. Our place was at 12,000 feet. This town was full of cool crazy people. Hippie's, growers, extreme sports junkies, ski bums, and Mexican folks. At the turn of the century it was a boom town with 80,000 people. However only 3000 in the entire county at this time. You could really feel a lingering spirit energy there. Good and bad.
We played a lot of trippy psychedelic functions, if you know what I mean. This is a family friendly page, so I will explain the situation that lead to this song delicately. Right before the show I mistakenly drank WAY to much hippy electric party punch. After I drank this giant glass, my guitar player said DUDE !
Anyway, I survived the show somehow. My friends said I was pretty good. Can't really remember haha. After that I was up and feeling very strange for a few days wandering around town with my dog Julio and playing guitar in the studio. I slept for a day or so after and when I came to, my band was working on a song I wrote and apparently recorded a rough draft of. I didn't really remember. I knew I was messing around but, I had no idea I finished an entire song.
Anyway, we messed with it, re wrote a little, added trippy guitar music and a groove. Every time I hear it, it brings me right back there. Crazy. Music is a time machine.
Here are the lyrics. We tried to make the music feel psychedelic. Hope you like it ☮️❤️
Lost in the Sky
Up above where the people stay
Lies a town with many names
When you first arrived cannot see
Blinded by the beauty fills your eyes
Soon you'll know you are there
And slowly everything seems a little strange...
Somber streets on a moon night
A spirit miners ghost town
Where dog and master are free to roam
And soon to lose their minds
Soon you'll know you are there
And slowly everything seems a little strange...
So close to God so far from home
In this land where reason slips away
You desperately grasp for the truth you've known
Only the mountain in your way...
Soon you'll know you are there
And slowly everything seems a little strange...
All her days sun so bright
All her days of snow
Mother loves her children mother owns them
