A HUGE thank you to everyone at Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat. It was a pleasure to meet you all, and thank you for hosting a much-needed pit stop before day 4’s home stretch - the teas were class!

All of us at Kinghorn Lifeboat were delighted to welcome Peter Saunders and his support team to the station recently. Peter walked 117 miles to fundraise in memory of his friend Cameron Lancaster.

The funds Peter raises from walking and camping along the Fife coastal path will go towards water safety and education charities chosen by Cameron’s family.

The event was in memory of Peter’s friend, Cameron Lancaster who tragically lost his life at Preston Hill Quarry in Inverkeithing in 2014.

Peter was joined by Cameron’s family and close friends at various sections of the walk and stopping in at Anstruther and Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat Stations and RNLI Lifeguard Huts throughout Fife.

Peter has so far raised over £3,000 for charity, if you would like to donate to Peter’s Just Giving page, you can find it here. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/miles-for-myles?utm_term=B98PYYGz6&fbclid=IwAR3i84bKDd4P_kxU2HvR_DK0JI9SssKVI3WHliMAJuJQfL_UU8A96rvtguM

The RNLI encourage everyone to swim at a lifeguarded beach and to enter cold water gradually and acclimatise slowly to reduce the risk of cold water shock. If you see someone in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

Give them a follow to stay in the loop about their work and to see the impact that donating to water safety can make.

117 miles walked in 5 days, and over £2700 raised so far in memory of Cameron.

This week wouldn’t have happened without the support of some amazing people.

Thank you to Barry McCleery, Iain Dick and Martin Docherty from the 48th Scouts for their support in arranging the hall and the minibus.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make yesterday evening possible; for their organisation and catering and love and support.

Thank you to everyone who joined the walked. It was great to spend time with you all and every fresh new pair of feet made the load feel lighter.

Thank you to the RNLI lifeguard and lifeboat crews and ops staff of Fife - West Sands, East Sands, Anstruther, Elie, Leven, Kinghorn, Burntisland and Aberdour. It’s been a real privilege getting to meet so many people and getting a better insight of the impact and value of their work.

Thank you to Lachlan Edwards and Jess Wilson-Leigh for walking with me as much as they did. The laughs, chats, games, pain, pints and ration packs that we’ve shared have been the highlights of my week.

Thank you to Cameron’s family for sharing their love and support in planning this week and for being with me when they can, it’s meant a lot.

Thank you everyone for every single penny that’s been donated, it’s helped to power every step.

Lunch in Dysart with some more new company! Looking good for 6pm at Kinghorn lifeboat station, and they’re excited to welcome us with tea, coffee and cake! Bring a picnic, and we’ll aim to starting walking from Kinghorn at 7pm. Also, we’re no longer camping in the scout hut tonight because we all smell and want to go home tonight for a shower. Onwards!

Day 3: lunch stop. 1 hour behind schedule leaving Anstruther. Worth it to meet some truly amazing folks that are working here at the RNLI in lots of different roles. They will support the walk with a press release that we hope will be passed around and shared by all 238 lifeboat stations in the country!

Welcome to the new Miles for Myles page! There are lots of different people interested in getting involved in this event and keeping up with things as they progress, so this seemed like the best way to do so. I will also use it to share updates during the walk (e.g. - “sh*t, we’re running late for lunch!”) 😂

Firstly, the biggest thank you to everyone who has donated so far. It’s been amazing to see the wave of supportive messages and kind donations that have come in over the past few weeks. The event has raised over £1.5K to date - incredible, thank you all so so much. You can still donate at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/miles-for-myles?utm_term=qmRGwprMK.

Secondly, huge thanks to 48th Fife Scout Group in Dalgety Bay and the RNLI for their pledged support. To the Scout group for the use of their hall and their minibus, and to the RNLI for their pledge of supporting in any way they can - details to follow soon. Cameron had strong connections with the Scouts and the RNLI; it’s heart warming to see that both organisation are so generous with their support of this event.

One week from now, Day 1 of 5 will be over - (24 miles done, 93 to go).

Please BYOB/B/B. Feel free to leave your B(s) at the Scout Hut on Friday evening ready for Saturday evening. A couple of people have offered to provide some catering - thank you so much! However, I’d recommend not relying on it because it might run out! We will run a fire or two if people want to cook any of their Bs, there will be people to help and cooking equipment. As requested by Cameron’s mum, Gillian, Calum Pearce will be there to sing! Otherwise, the finish line celebration is an opportunity for those that knew Cameron to come together and remember him.

Linked is a public excel document with a detailed itinerary. Please use it to indicate where you will join the walk and see who else is joining from where and when. I hope to see lots of people, particularly on day 5. Please indicate on the document if you need a seat on the minibus to Kincardine.

Please be in touch if you have any queries, questions, suggestions, words of warning/encouragement - I’ll appreciated hearing them all! Please help to spread the word loudly and widely. Thank you to everyone who has helped to make this event possible.

Peter
