Tulip fields in the Netherlands
The flowering tulip fields of the Netherlands are one of the prettiest places in the world. Even the father of Impressionism, Claude Monet, came here to capture them on canvas. He painted five versions of the picture Champs de tulipes en Hollande. Nowadays, they are stored in different museums around the world. Crowds of tourists come to the Netherlands every year in spring to admire the riot of colors and also visit the famous flower auctions FloraHolland. The most popular plantations are in Lisse and around the Keukenhof. The season usually begins in early April, when hyacinths and daffodils bloom. Tulips bloom around mid-April and drop in mid-May.
See the most famous flower fields in the Netherlands during a bike ride along the Flower Route (Bloemenbollenroute). You can go on the tour even with children. The roads here are quiet and safe, and the trip takes only about two hours.
