A end of a era in Mabou with Francis leaving. He did everything in his power to keep the lights on in the Mabou Arena .He even dressed as a goaltender to keep the gentlemen league going. Hes the one responsible for the starting of the over 35 programme adding more hours to the coffers for the rinks bottom line a friend to womens hockey .A general good all around guy he will truely be missed.Big shoes to be filled.

Rules/Philosophy
This is what our league is all about. Players of every different skill level playing together to have fun playing hockey.

It is each player’s responsibility to ensure the safety of himself and his opponents as we enjoy playing together. Each player, no matter what his skill level, comes to the rink to have fun playing hockey with his teammates and friends. It is essential that faster skaters, more proficient shooters, stronger playmakers, higher skilled players make this a team sport where every player takes away the satisfaction of having enjoyed his hour of hockey. The goalie, defence, and forwards are all essential in the making of every game. If this was the NHL, only the highest level of player would be here. This is recreational hockey where players of all levels, goalies, defence and forwards, play together to enjoy playing hockey.

This is non-contact hockey. There are no slap shots and we must take care in the way we play the game to make sure we minimize the chances of injuries. It is not necessary to prevent a shot or goal at any cost.
Part of the fun in this game is being able to make the play and sometimes letting someone else make the play.
Driving to the net is a great competitive move but not very practical if it puts you, your opponent or the goalie in jeopardy. It is non-contact hockey so you shouldn’t be driving through other players.
Watch the high sticks. Swinging or reaching for a high puck is a dangerous play for all the players around you.
Everyone pays the same amount to play and deserves the same amount of ice time. Keep shifts short, skate hard and pass the puck.
This is a team sport. In every game we have fun playing on a particular team. However, we are a member of every team. The joy that every player takes away from the rink and brings back next week is what makes this league fun for every one of us.

Respect for the guys you play hockey with is very important. I don’t care what level of play at which your team mate or opponent plays, but he is likely playing at his level. You can always give him polite encouragement and advice, but don’t expect dramatic change.

In games where the teams are balanced there is great competition and when one wins or loses the game by a goal or two, everyone skates off the ice having enjoyed playing the game.

Congratulations to Francis Morris for running a great end of year tournament .It seems Westly Beaton didn`t think it was going to be any good and didn`t mind telling people how the teams were wrong and you ruined the tournament.Way to prove him wrong

Another year in the books.Special thanks to John Simon Beaton who may be in the background but vital to the rink keep on going.Followed by the face of the Rink Francis Morris another vital clog in keeping the rink going. Then theres are three starting goalies Boyd MacIntyre the Nathan Rourke of the MBHA the only home grown goalie. Our two IMPORTS Jordan MacLeod and JD Carpenter who supplied steady goaltending for the guys.Out for a couple a games Brian Beaton with those retro pads and finally Rodney Beaton a 5 year absence from the net throwing the pads on.
All the players that left there warm couches to come out and play well done and remember 7 months will go by quick so don`t get to use to those couches. I think a pretty successful season on the whole.
We can always do better .Thanks to Westley Beaton for pointing out flaws that it could have been run better.Especially the situation with the emergency goalie .The problem being that it was unfair for one team to get stuck with him the whole game. His solution was for the emergency goalie to split the game half and half.Personally I think Westley should just take over the over 35 and run it.Make Mabou Hockey Great Again.
Every one have a great and safe summer.

Emergency Goalie there has been criticism to the rink manager that its unfair for the emergency goalie to play for one team because of lack of abilities.Well its the emergency goalie if he had lots of ability he wouldn`t be the emergency goalie.

18/02/2024

Over 50 means if your born after March 1st 1974 you are ineligible to play over 50.

Goaltending rules explained.Since skaters come and go if you have 12 or 14 its alright. If you don`t have two goaltenders then its not good.To insure we have two goaltenders we have a system in place to make sure we have them.Tuesday is set up with Jordan and Boyd as the first two asked. Then we go down the list of whos availiable yes theres a list. The list is a group of goalies that have either contacted the MBHA or have been contacted. If all else fails we go to the emergency goalie. The same setup for Fridays only it has been JD and Jordan there contacted if one of them can`t play same procedure as for Tuesdays. If one of these guys cancels late then right to the emergency goalie. This system has worked pretty good. Dave Rankin contacted the MBHA while he was still out west to see if he could play because he was coming home for the holidays.I checked with our regulars to see if we could fit him we did he played we maintained two goalie.
