Todayโs healthy eating week theme is ๐ท๐ข๐ณ๐บ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฆ๐ช๐ฏ! โฃ

Protein has a variety of ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ. It is involved in our immune system ๐ฆ , muscle building ๐ช and transport of nutrients throughout our body. โฃ

Proteins are made from chains of amino acids, these are the building blocks of the proteins in our body ๐งฑ. โฃ

There are ๐ธ๐ถ ๐ฅ๐ช๐ง๐ง๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ต๐บ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ข๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฐ ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ฅ๐ด. 9 of these are known as ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐จ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฌ, meaning our body cannot make them itself so we need to consume them from our diet ๐ฝ๏ธ. โฃ

Eating different types of proteins, such as beans/pulses, eggs ๐ณ, dairy ๐ฅ, meat ๐ฅฉ, nuts/seeds ๐ฅ and soy will make it easier to ensure you are eating a range of amino acids. โฃ

Different sources of protein will also have other ๐ง๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ. Beans and pulses are great sources of fibre and oily fish is a fantastic source of omega-3 fatty acids ๐. โฃ

Some ways you can begin to vary your protein is by having two portions of fish per week, using unsalted nuts as a snack and by having some meat free days of eating to increase your plant based protein consumption ๐ฝ๏ธ. โฃ
