global education.

by Lenka Dušková, Simona Šafaříková, Engela van der Klashorst and Arnošt Svoboda
https://doi.org/10.14324/IJDEGL.16.1.04

We describe how the project can be used for global education: cultural understanding, respecting diversity and value differences. All of this is framed by the concept of relational reflexivity by Margaret Archer. A method of task-based visual diaries was used here. We would happily share more soon😀

Our colleagues from the 🇪🇺 (European Observatoire of Sport and Employment: www.eose.org) introduce very interesting tools - created in the project:

📂v4v-sport.eu

The project explored the role of volunteers in European sports organisations🏃🚴🏊. Its goals were:
- to analyse the sport volunteer workforce;
- to highlight realities and challenges around volunteering;
- to improve recruitment and retention;
- and, to create an innovative online tool which volunteers can use to showcase their skills and competencies to potential employers and education providers.

These main outputs were produced:
• An European research report summarising data from more than 2.700 organisations:
https://www.v4v-sport.eu/

• An interactive online tool for sports organisations to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in sports volunteering

Current insight into the volunteer sector in the European sports. Latest European sports market statistics.🇪🇺

First visit from to new partners from the European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (Faculty of Physical Culture joined in 2023)🧑‍🎓

A two day event hosted by the Hungarian University of Sports Science in on the 13th and 14th December. 🏙️

First, outcomes of project were presented, including a research report on European sports volunteers, an innovative volunteering toolkit for organisations and a self reflection tool for volunteers. A highly recommended set of tools for any sports organisations who works with volunteers.🏃🚶🧍

The conference was followed by the general assembly and members seminar (with members from more than 20 countries). Latest EOSE activities were presented together with its updated strategy for the next 3 years.🧾 The main goal stays the same: reflecting on the needs of European sports employers and the current economic, political and social context as a way how to adapt education, training and professional preparation of sports workforce and volunteers. Highly relevant for sports faculties.🥇⚽📢

The last day, new data on the European sports labour market were discussed. EOSE process data from and national statistical offices and builds own unique database of detailed sports-related statistics💾. Still, many countries face changes after years.

Two days full of new contacts, collaboration ideas and meeting new colleagues.🖇️

Another visit by the students at the Fairplay Football League organised by the ( ) project. 1st December in Olomouc. ⚽🌐

Within the module "Socialisation through Sports", students learn about various uses of sports for a social change. This time, we visited a regular event where several teams of young kids and teenagers with their coaches from the participated at the tournament using the method: matches without referees where players themselves set and evaluate rules and where the fair play points are as important as the actual goals.🙋🤝

We saw a lot of passionate girls and boys - skilled football players - who created matches full of emotions but also thoughtfulness towards each other. We saw how important life skills and values can be taught through sport. Especially important for kids and youth who often have a difficult start in their life.🛤️

Many thanks to our colleagues from the for inviting us again. Many facets from the theory materialised for our students today.🙏

Our team participated in a conference at the University, 16th November.🇲🇫

The French colleagues prepared a discussion on the use of concept in the francophone context versus other labels ( etc.). The participants presented various studies from the international field with interesting insights into use of , evaluation of programmes, development strategies, hegemony or .

While most participants represented French universities, other countries attended as well: Reunion, Canada, Great Britain, Czech Republic ( ).

We gladly took part in the event where various conceptions and understandings of sport as a tool for development and social change were discussed. Specifically, the language and regional factor plays a more important role than one could assume from the mainstream English SDP production.

The last partners' meeting in the Sport and Social Cohesion Lab project at Sports University Cologne. A main output, the Sports Living Lab Toolkit, was finalised before the official launch.

In the last three years, we've created, implemented and compared co-creation initiatives involving NGOs, universities and local stakeholders in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The aim was to further explore the potential of sports for facilitation of the social change in various settings and with the active involvement of the end users, often from socially disadvantaged environment.

The gathered data will be published in journals and in an edited book.

Inspirational 4 days at the World Congress of Sociology of Sport in Ottawa🇨🇦, 14th-17th August.

On behalf of our research team, we presented outcomes of two studies:
1) inquiry into local projects from Latin America🇧🇷🇨🇴🇺🇾 and their understanding of agenda🇺🇳 and
2) current changes in the sporting field in Saudi Arabia.🇸🇦

We also visited many interesting presentations and panel discussions, such as the Wednesday one where Jay Coakley and Lawrence Wenner delivered key note speeches about the position of Sociology of Sport in the social and sports studies industry.

Many thanks to University of Ottawa for hosting us.

The Fair Play Football Day.🙋🏃⚽

Our colleagues from the Football for Development project ( ) invited us for a special celebration of the Fair Play Football in Olomouc, Czech Republic. There were workshops for young participants🙆 from the Olomouc region, dance show💃, and matches.
The event was attended by young players from Sigma Olomouc or a former Czech player Jan Rajnoch

A perfect example of how using sport as a tool is implemented in the field, facilitates children and youth and pushes them to be more open, communicative and respectful to others.👍🍀
❤️Proud to be part of it (at least a little bit😉)

📣Another day, another report. 📝

Besides the students' activities, we've also prepared a study on the role of in European higher education teaching and what does it mean for NGOs. To gather data, we published an international survey targeting HE educators using SDP topics in their teaching. In further stages, a series of interviews with NGO professionals were conducted to further explore the role of NGO sector in the SDP field. The resulting study offer relevant insights into the field of SDP teaching and practical application.

The project explores how local sports projects support the social cohesion. All this based on several living labs: networks of NGOs, universities, policy makers etc. End users mostly recruit from socially disadvantaged communities, migrants or ethnic minorities.👍

🏁The field trip to Brighton/Eastbourne within the project is over.👏

Many thanks to our host, University of Brighton, and the main organisers, Thomas Carter and Mark Doidge. Together with students from the UK, Germany (Paderborn University) and the Czech Republic (Palacký University Olomouc), our colleagues from NGOs participated - Czech INEX-SDA representing the Football for Development, Train to be Good from Poland and Play Handball from Germany and South Africa.

Students and NGOs' young leaders got an insight into the practices of the Football 4 Peace programme (both theoretical and practical) and visited various organisations utilising sporting activities as a tool for affecting social issues, inclusion of marginalised groups etc. These included charity initiatives linked to professional sports clubs: Albion in The Community (https://albioninthecommunity.org.uk/) and Sussex Cricket Foundation (https://sussexcricket.co.uk/sussex-cricket-foundation) as well as community-based initiatives, VYD (https://www.vydcic.org/) and Nam Yang Martial Arts Club (https://www.namyangbrighton.co.uk/).

The series of events confirmed that they offered a unique experience for the students and young leaders who learned new methods and examples of how sport is used for social and cultural goals. But it also highlighted much needed cooperation between the NGO sector and universities in the field of sport for development.👍👍👍

And the last day of the visit to the University of Brighton.
The students joined Football 4 Peace graduates (https://www.football4peace.org.uk/) and tried various ways how sport can be used for achieving "non-sporting" goals in practice. That was a wrap for students while the project team had another meetings discussing how to prolong the cooperation between NGOs and universities.
