This sunday we will open our second Sunday Soul Service at Openingsweekend • Bar Bricolage 2022 with a (for us) Classic Album that we will play from the first note, all the way to the last. This album will be our spiritual direction for the evening.
After some debat between Vinylla Ice & me we settled on Curtis Mayfield's 1972' magnum opus Super Fly!
We have several reasons why we choose this incredible but music critic John Bush said it best :
Super Fly ignited an entire genre of music, the blaxploitation soundtrack, and influenced everyone from soul singers to television-music composers for decades to come. It stands alongside Saturday Night Fever and Never Mind the Bo****ks Here's the S*x Pistols as one of the most vivid touchstones of '70s pop music.
The record is the to the blaxsploitation classic of the same name. This is Curtis Mayfield combining a fine musical message with gentle vocals but powerful lyrics. in which Mayfield balances his instrumental work and songwriting without overdoing it. Lyrics about drugdealin' and ghetto living are a touchy subject, but Mayfield handles it brilliantly.
If you never heard this album before, get acquainted with this great musical masterpiece (and maybe even watch the movie)! Or surprise yourself by coming early to Bar Bricolage. This sunday we will open our session (at 14h) with 37 min and 5 seconds of pure soulfull funk. Let's come together and celebrate with great music sooting for the soul.
