WHAT. A. NIGHT! Hilarious hosts, 25 amazing acts, rad prizes, laughs, surprises, over 1K+ viewers in attendance and over $8K+ raised in support of local creatives and talented food entrepreneurs! Something really special happened in the Bay Area the other night and we couldn’t be more grateful to have all of you be a part of it.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who tuned-in, participated and hung out for The Marina’s Got Talent Competition last Friday! It has been so heartwarming and inspiring to see so many of you supporting our amazing local artists and creative residents as well as all of you who put yourself out there… because it’s a tall ask to do and you guys blew our expectations out of the friggin’ water last Friday. Having said that, we wanted to take a moment on this beautiful Sunday morning to give our Talent Winner and Talent Runner-Up a big, heartfelt CONGRATS!!! for their victories.

Talent Winner:
The Dons – Livin’ On A Quarantine Prayer (pictured below accepting their trophy)

Talent Runner-Up:
Jenn Tzeng – No Limit Violin Cover

Both the talent winner and talent runner-up will receive a cash money prize, a prize package from our local community partners and most importantly…the hottest collectors item in 2020 / emergency TP kit that is the absolutely epic The Covies TP GOAT trophy.

(We’re not jealous. Not even a little bit.)

Friday was one of the most heart warming community events we've been apart of in awhile and we have received such an overwhelming amount of additional interest from those in our community who unfortunately weren’t able to attend the other night, so we have decided to rebroadcast the variety show ONE LAST TIME tomorrow night at 8pm PT with a few additional talent acts as well a few new surprises as a special thank you to everyone. We will be broadcasting the expanded variety show via our official page here. Stay tuned for additional details. Thanks again everybody and hope to see you all again (as well as a few new faces) this Monday!

Wow! Over 30+ projects have been submitted to The Marina’s Got Talent Competition! I am happy to say that I am the very first to have watched every single talent submitted and I'm so stoked to share all of these amazing song parodies, musical performances, dances, stand up comedy routines and comedy sketches with all of you this Firday. We still have runway for a few more official talent acts, so we have decided to let give a slight extension on submissions. Submit your project to our website, www.marinasgottalent.com, by tonight at 11:59pm!

We started this whacky little project with such modest ambitions and y'all blew our friggin’ expectations out of the water! None of this would have been possible without our volunteer team of jurors to watch and evaluate all of them, so a big thank you to everyone who has helped with this process. We are aiming to have our final selection and program schedule by the end of the day and we so are so damn excited to put on this awesome show for everyone this Friday. Get excited!

Our local artists, restaurants and cultural institutions are really at the part of who we are as a city and a community and we fear we may lose a little piece of our humanity in the crossfire if we didn't step up and do something. So, let's all come together and help spread creativity and humor fa....

11/05/2020

So I debated posting this and this wasn’t easy for me to write, but I thought this was important to share. Mother’s Day has been a particularly difficult time for me since my mom passed last year. She was a truly remarkable woman. Part scientist, part creative, part seeker of truth and right doing, she always wanted to escape into a misty forest at dawn and run towards the light that spills through the trees or cloak herself in velvet and swim into a glittering nebula beyond. Growing up, my siblings and I used to put on silly talent shows for her and my dad and make them a romantic dinner complete with candles, cut up hot dogs, mustard and ketchup dipping sauce and Lay’s potato chips, which partly inspired this whacky little talent competition. I think when we lose someone, especially a Mom, the best way to honor their memory is to remember and be grateful for everything they have done for us and then try to act in accordance with that remembrance and gratitude. With that in mind, I have since endeavored to try to live my life the way she taught me to, to work hard, to be kind to others and work to try to make a better world. She always really loved the Mr. Rogers quote below which I think is particularly relevant to this rather strange chapter that we all currently find ourselves in: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

During times like this, the heightened knowledge of fragility and mortality produced by such recent events can terrify, embitter and separate. It can also awaken. It can remind us not to take the people who love us for granted and that we can either view such things as a crisis or a call to show up for ourselves and others, a setback or a summons to be something more, an obstacle or an opportunity to make things better. I know a lot of people may be hurting right now and may not be in a position to be able to give, but it has also been breaking may heart watching the emotional and financial toll the recent pandemic has not only taken on my dad who is a musician, but also a lot of my creative friends and restaurant staff who are suffering from lack of income right now. You may not personally know any of the local creatives or talented food entrepreneurs this event and cause is supporting, but if you listened to their stories, really listened, you may frequently be overcome and amazed by their ability to continue to befriend each other, to love their families and to do what they must do to keep the machinery of the world running. You may find how miraculously they prevail and continue to do difficult and effortful tasks to hold themselves and their families and society together and bring a little more light into the world during a rather dark time… and you may find dumbfounded gratitude as the only appropriate response. Such remembrance and gratitude may even inspire you to be a helper yourself, as it did for me not too long ago.

Having said all of that, I wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already shown their support and if you haven’t already and are able, please consider supporting our local artists and talented food entrepreneurs by making a donation to our GoFundMe below. Thank you.
