“When I was growing up in South Africa, it was second nature for musical instruments to come out around the campfire late at night. Everyone would sit around the fire and play and sing together. With this show, I really wanted to recreate this campfire atmosphere. That is why Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre will play outdoors on the grass at UQ St Lucia’s Great Court. I really want audiences to experience the camaraderie of sharing in stories and music around the campfire. These are some of my fondest memories growing up and I firmly believe that this is storytelling, theatre in its original form; just friends sharing tales around the fire.”

We proudly present the cast and creatives behind our upcoming Anywhere Festival show. Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre will explore the story of Ireland’s iconic ancient tragic heroine, Deirdre of the Sorrows, with a feminist twist. The show includes 12 new original songs by composer Anina-Marie Warrener and feature a talented cast of Brisbane performers. Meet Clarise Ooi! She will be taking on the role of Assistant Director and Producer of our Anywhere Festival show, Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre.

Clarise is a Brisbane-based actor and singer who has always been fascinated by stories, both in and out of this world. She holds a Bachelor Fine Arts degree majoring in Drama and has previously appeared in Elsewhere Theatre Company’s ‘The Land Mine Is Me’ (2020) and Etch Events’ original musical, ‘Mettle, Moxie & Melody’ (2019). Her love for music and storytelling has led to her involvement in Campfire Cabaret which will be her first production in an assistant director role. Clarise is very excited to be a part of the creative team and is looking forward to sharing this with Brisbane.

Completing our cast for our Anywhere Festival production of Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre is our very own, Anina-Marie Warrener. In addition to her role as creator and composer, Anina-Marie will also be directing and performing in the show.

A proud jack of all creative trades, Anina-Marie has worked as a writer, composer, singer, actor, director, and producer. She graduated from QUT’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama) program in 2014 and UQ’s Master of Events Management in 2016. She has been writing music since 2004 and performed across Queensland as a singer-songwriter. Her recent performance credits include Lynch & Paterson’s Lush and Cinderella as well as writing, directing and starring in Etch Event’s production of Mettle, Moxie & Melody. Through Campfire Cabaret, Anina-Marie hopes to rewrite Deirdre’s story to empower women and challenge traditional portrayals in ancient mythology.

Meet Tomer Dimanstein, the third cast member for our Anywhere Festival show Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre.

Tomer has been performing for numerous years and is a graduate of Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music’s Bachelor of Theatre (Musical Theatre) program. Tomer's performance credits include touring Queensland in the children and youth theatre shows Safety Circus and Choices, playing Schlomo Metzenbaum in Matt Ward Entertainment’s production of Fame and recently performing the role of Jackson Delaney in InsideOutside Theatre Company’s The Belles of Burlesque. Tomer has also worked extensively overseas. He played the title role in the Malaysian production of The Mikado, has worked as a singer in Turkey, toured the Greek Islands performing in Med Ents Ltd’s Jersey Boys tribute music show and he currently also works as a vocalist for Blue Vibes Music.

We are proud to present Izaac Cornish, our second cast member of our upcoming Anywhere Festival production of Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre.

Izaac first began his interest in music in primary school, where he was a part of both a school choir all the way through until grade 12, and extra-curricular choir from grades 5-8. His interest in musical theatre also began in primary school, with the role of Mayor Alderman Greedy in a production of Rats! The Musical. Izaac continued his interest in musical theatre from there, from ensemble roles in a production of Les Miserables to The Wizard in the Wizard of Oz. Outside of school, Izaac was a part of the 2016 performance of Belshazzar’s Feast at QPAC, and had various roles including The Nerd, Kurt’s Dad and JD’s Dad in Redcliffe Musical Theatre’s performance of Heathers. Izaac is currently studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Earth Science. While this course certainly rocks, he is looking forward to continuing with his passion of musical theatre with the Anywhere Festival.

We are so pleased to make our first cast announcement today! Etch Events proudly presents Chloe Boike in the title role of Deirdre for our upcoming Anywhere Festival production of Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre!

Chloe joined the world of the performing arts 9 years ago when she joined the Ipswich Musical Theatre Company. Since then she has performed in shows such as Sunday in the Park with George, Eurobeat, Beauty and the Beast, Witches of Eastwick, Strictly Ballroom and Mamma Mia. Even with the COVID pandemic shutting down the most of the performing arts last year, Chloe was fortunate enough to work with the InsideOutside Theatre Company and perform in their production of ‘The Belles of Burlesque’ in December. Most recently Chloe performed in ‘Stepping Out’, a cabaret performance at Fritzenberger. When Chloe is not on stage, she studies Law and Business Management at UQ. Chloe spends her spare time as Musical Director for the Ipswich Musical Theatre Company Juniors and is an active member of the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council. Chloe is super excited to be working on this project and cannot wait to perform at the Anywhere Festival.

The story unfolds through poetry, prose, and acoustic music.

Etch Events is seeking Expressions of Interest to be involved with our production ‘Campfire Cabaret: The Legend of Deirdre’ at Anywhere Festival 2021.

This show is an immersive campfire retelling that reimagines Deirdre, the ancient Irish tragic heroine, as a feminist icon through prose and music.

Show dates will be either 7, 8, 14 & 15 May 2021 OR 14, 15, 21 & 22 May 2021 (depending on final availabilities). Rehearsals will commence from March 2021 (days and times to be determined by cast availability).

Please Note: Although there are characters/roles, this is a cabaret show that requires very minimal acting. We are mainly looking for skilled vocalists. Voice types can be flexible for the right person as music could potentially be transposed.

The audition process will be digital.

Remuneration for this project will be on a profit-share basis.
We will not share your personal information with any outside organisations and will use this solely for this EOI process.
