Happy 100th Birthday to my Grandpa Baker! This last summer he went on to be with his Creator and his sweet Berna in heaven and I'm sure this is his best celebration yet! Enjoy this bit of relationship wisdom and a peak into growing up in the 1920's and 30's.

There is so much joy in working with small businesses and non-profits. And telling everyday family stories đŸ˜˜đŸ€Œ*chef's kiss*

Consider me the midwife of everyday film joy. You have an idea or a need and we help cultivate and deliver you to the other side with a film that is not just useful, but reminds you of why you love what you do.

Let's uncover and show off the beautiful ordinary that you are already in the middle of. DM me if you interested and I'll give you $100 off if you mention this post.

Ryan & Madison - Wedding Highlight

Madison and Ryan‘s love story is one of choosing to trust in the power of love over the fear of the unknown. At one point they had to trust that it would stop raining and it finally did. 🙌😂
It was such a privilege for Nick and I to be invited into their special day! One advantage of their smaller wedding was the intimate, relaxed setting where we loved getting to know their crazy fun family. đŸ„‚
Congratulations Newmans!

Elizabeth Sue Bernard

Last year on new years eve our niece, Elizabeth Sue Bernard, was born in Traverse City, Michigan. We were fortunate enough to be there for those precious first hours and share in the joy of her arrival. This year we celebrate her 1st birthday and love to look back fondly on the night of her birth. Happy Birthday Lizzy!

My sweet Grandma Bonnie turns 91 today!

Several years ago I got the chance to sit down for an hour and interview her about everything from her childhood and her grandparents role in her upbringing to the legacy she hopes to leave behind.

What a priceless opportunity! The vulnerable, intentional conversations that you have with those you love are better than any gift you can find in the store. Be awkward and ask the important questions before it’s too late.

AOSA Conference 2018 Highlight

I have the privilege of spending the next 3 days filming the AOSA Conference in Salt Lake City! AOSA is a professional organization of educators dedicated to the creative music and movement approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. Here is a highlight from last year's conference.

Looking forward to sharing these stories!

Maybe we feel like we know our grandparents, but have you ever ask them about how they would like to be remembered? Or what they would do differently if they could go back? I encourage you to ask the questions before it’s too late (And even better, hire me to record the answers 😉) Not only will it bring up answers you will want to remember, but it will give you an excuse to intentionally strengthen and expand your relationship. And who doesn’t like to talk about themselves 😂

Take it from Grandpa Baker
you should study hard in school, play more with your kids and have guests over, even if your house doesn’t look perfect.

The summer is slowly coming to a close. It has brought sunflowers, sour cherries, loons calling through the birch trees, trips to the beach, lots of watermelon and lots of swimming. We have let our imaginations wander with Barbies, Monster Trucks, Pokemon and Legos. However, in with all of that growth and fun comes the forgotten ease with which sunburns, muggy heat, and wilted sunflowers and expectations sap the energy out of us. The paradox of this struggle seems amplified by the anticipation of a perfect, pain-free summer. Then, you lose someone you love. The surgery finds something that needs radiation. The adventurous summer turns into quarreling over toys with your siblings. How do we accept that summers are not going to be perfect, never have been and that’s ok?

How do we grow patience in the unexpected? How do we remain grateful for the good, while remaining honest about things that are not yet good? I love the Tish Harrison Warren quote, “Grace is a mystery and the joyful scandal of the universe.” If the summer was a mix of surprising joys and unexpected trouble may you step curiously hopeful into this next season. Fall will bring more unknowns, but may we be scandalously joyful and filled with grace towards the struggle it will also bring.

It doesn’t matter how prepared or unprepared you are to have a baby; the moment that child takes it’s first breath feels like a shock. The electric energy in the room suddenly snaps and explodes and everyone seems to gasp. I’ll admit the moment Shepard was born and every time since I cry watching this moment. I love the laughter of Lauren and Kevin, the wonder of Maggie and the quiet steady strength of the grandmothers watching another generation brought into their family. It was such an honor to film the birth and if you’re interested in capturing such a magical moment in your family hop over to flourishfilms.org to see the entire short film.

One last fun fact. Kevin and I went straight from filming a wedding all day long straight to the hospital. All through the reception we had been getting texts from Lauren and sometime around the first dance we realized this might actually be quite a long night. It was actually great timing. So glad Shepard waited til we were finished working to come along :)
