Originally, flowers were thrown to distract the crowd as the bride ran to safety.

The tradition originated in medieval Europe, where the bride was considered good-luck on her wedding day. Other ladies would chase the bride in an attempt to tear a piece from her wedding dress, for their own good fortune.
Brides began to throw objects to the crowd, often an item of clothing such as their garter, but flowers were the crowd favourite.
It is now folklore that the one who catches the bouquet will be the next to walk down the isle .

Like most wedding traditions this is an optional extra and is not an essential part of the ceremony. Your wedding should be done your way, do whatever feels right.

Saying a poem that I wrote to my sister, Lucy and her husband, Hayden before they said their wedding vows.

“I searched high and low for what I should say ,
On my beautiful sisters most important day,
Shakespeare couldn’t help me,
And the bible fell through,
So I thought, by Christ, what should I do ?
Because today my sister will loose our last name,
Gone forever,
Never again the same,
Today we loose family, but what do we gain ?
As Lucy flies the nest leaving my father and mother,
What has happened here today,
is that we’ve gained a brother “
