I don’t tell people as often as I should, but…

We grow all our dang flowers ourselves! All the flowers in your CSA bouquet, all the flowers in the farmstand, all the flowers in our customer arrange arrangements and 95% of the flowers in every one of our weddings come from our farm.

It is kind of amazing how many people don’t actually know or seem to care about this fact, but I want to shout it from the rooftops!

Farms matter. Small farms, matter a lot! And dammit, if we don’t spend our money with small farmers, they will not exist in the future.

How are you showing up for the small farms in your community? Join a CSA!

Winter and early spring are the times in which the financial burden of farming is high and cash flow is low. Joining a CSA means that you are giving your local farms a cash injection at the time that they need it most and that you get the best and most beautiful flowers or produce the following spring.

If you’re in the Seattle area and would like to join the .flora Spring Flower CSA, just click the link in our bio to sign up. Pick ups will happen in Phinney Ridge and in Capitol Hill this spring.

🥕 I’d also love to know about other fabulous CSAs in the area. What’s your favorite flower or veggie CSA? Let me know in the comments below.

“One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light. It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light.” -James Baldwin

Happy solstice folks! See you in the light.

🌸Are you planning a wedding or event and need locally grown, magical florals? Here is your roadmap to book full service wedding flowers with Fabled Flora.

The steps are:
1. Fill out our inquiry form. This form gives us a quick snapshot of your event and your floral dreams. All you need are a few basics, like how many guests you’re planning for and you’re expected floral budget. You can find this form in the link in our bio or at fabledflora.com/weddings

2. We book a consultation call. After receiving your inquiry, will send you a more detailed questionnaire to help clarify your vision then we’ll schedule a zoom call to chat, get to know each other, and discuss your event in detail.

3. We create a design proposal. I’ll put together a proposal for you with everything we talked about, including a concept board and a breakdown of what to expect for your florals. It’s more of a starting point than a done deal - it’s totally flexible! We can adjust it as much as needed right up until a month before your event. And don’t worry - I’m all about collaboration and happy to make changes along the way!

4. Finalize your booking. Once the design is finalized, will send over a contract for you to review and sign. Just return it with your deposit, and that’s it - your wedding florals are officially booked!

💙 In addition to full service weddings we also offer DIY, bulk buckets of flowers and à la carte wedding items like a bridal bouquets and boutonnières. Check out fabledflora.com for all the details. And of course send me an email or a DM if you have any questions.

Are you a person who is extremely affected by AMBIANCE?

Some people can sit an hard chair that makes a funny sound when you move in room lit by florescent lights and are completely unperturbed. 😳

And then there are people like me, who are constantly adjusting the light level, lighting candles, adding pillows and sheepskins for maximum coziness and rearranging the furniture every few weeks for new effect.

If you’re on team ambience, then prioritizing florals and candles for an event is vital. But what if you’re marrying somebody who doesn’t feel the same way?

I think making decisions jointly when you are married, starts with HOW you want to get married. There has to be some sense of shared vision and understanding. I think that you should be on basically the same page with your person about your budget and capacity.

But how you make it all happen within those constraints is why I am here to help. So just remember, you don’t have to have everything figured out BEFORE you talk to a florist. All you need is the mutual respect and understanding between you and your future partner about what money and time resources you can to commit to an event. That’s it! Everything else we can figure out together.

📣 I wanna know, are you obsessed with ambience like me? Do you have a partner who feels the same way? Or have you had to find a way to meet in the middle in your in your home?

Are you a do-er or a dreamer?

I think some people are permanently in one camp or another. Ahem.. my lovely father (dreamboat😆). Or some people are like me and swing back-and-forth depending on the season.

I am the fair weather do-er and foul weather dreamer. Right now we are in a kind of in-between moment, where there’s still so many things that need to be done out in the farm while the weather is foul. But I am dreaming of a dream winter where I can be cozy and plan for spring.

I was wondering for any dreamboats out there, if you would want to get together and do some garden dreaming this winter. Maybe we should have a winter rendezvous?

Garden books to peruse and seeds to swap? Cozy fire and drinks? DM me and let’s get to planning!

Are you a Romantic? 💘

The Romantic era was an artistic and intellectual movement that originated in Europe towards the end of the 18th century.

It advocated for the importance of subjectivity, imagination, and appreciation of nature in society and culture in response to the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. They argued that passion and intuition were crucial to understanding the world, and that beauty is more than merely an affair of form, but rather something that evokes a strong emotional response. With this philosophical foundation, the Romanticists elevated among other things a reverence for nature and the supernatural.

(Can you tell I was an Art History major?!)

I think in this anxious, information overloaded, chaotic, ridiculous world we live in - a little Romanticism might do you good.

“Look, your whole life is a creative activity. People who say, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body,” it’s like you’ve… did you not choose the person that you married? That was an act of creativity. You had a creative vision of your future when you met this person. And you came together with them and you two are creating that, that’s creativity. Everything that you decide, everything that you surround yourself with, everything that you make is creativity.” - Elizabeth Gilbert

🤯 When you start thinking this way, you can’t stop! Every choice is an act of creativity. Every action item on your to do list an opportunity for world making.

I think about this a lot when I’m creating my physical spaces in my home and outdoor spaces. And recently I’m trying to be more engaged in dressing with creativity in mind.

🌀 Do you agree with Elizabeth Gilbert? Is every decision creative?

I recently had the chance to really truly be seen in my messy, magical, imperfect self by the wonderful film photographer .

I have to admit there was long struggle to get myself here. We had booked the year previously and I totally chickened out. And then we tried again this summer and my husband got Covid that weekend and so we had to reschedule again. And of course, in between all of that, I had plenty of self-doubt and stress.

But I persevered, and even though it rained the whole time, Holly and I laughed and talked for hours and I truly enjoyed the whole experience. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for meaningful, heirloom style photos.

It was a great reminder that the hard things are worth doing. And also that special talents of an artist like a film photographer brings a depth and quality you just can’t find an iPhone photo.

It’s not really about the wedding. It’s about the marriage.

It might seem like a counterintuitive thing for a wedding florist to say, but I’m going to say it.

And every year on our wedding anniversary, I’m reminded. Our little wedding took place on the beach near our house with 12 guests and a communally-made meal. It was simple. And more importantly, our four years of marriage since have been simply the best.

🦆 -duck-duck- GOOSE!

We welcomed 8 of these little cuties to the farm recently. Their job is to be the cutest slug patrol. I’m really prefer pets who have jobs. I’ll feed you, but you gotta work! (My cat Pip is the world’s best mouser. 🐈‍⬛)

The gosling will be the guard goose, keeping the duckies safe from aerial attacks. 🪿

Do you like duck eggs? Have you ever eaten a goose egg? If you have, tell me what they are like. I’ve never had one!

Do you know that intense pleasure when you bite into that first summer tomato that you’ve grown yourself?

There’s a mixture of extreme pride and sweetness. It’s the most delicious tomato you’ll ever eat. You will never look at a store-bought tomato the same way. 😂

I liken this pleasure with the experience to growing my own flowers for my floral design business.

I could choose to not grow my own and instead buy from the wholesale market. In a lot of ways, it would be way, way easier and let’s be honest, a lot of people wouldn’t notice.

So why do it? I know that there is a real difference in the diversity, uniqueness, and quality of farm grown flowers that don’t travel hundreds of miles. I want to provide you with the most luscious, abundant, and verdant flowers that I possibly can. And that means growing them myself.

Plus, once you get bitten by gardening bug, you become addicted to finding new varieties! I don’t usually like to put it this way because addiction is not cute but flower addiction is real. Any other plant addicts out there? I’m about to head to today, heaven help me. Drop a 🌻 emoji in the comments and tell me you know what I’m talking about. 🤣
