Hello, welcome to my page!!

My name is Soila Santos and this is my culinary journey. To me cooking is a lot more than just ingredients thrown together, it is a passion of mine that only grew stronger through my life’s journey. I would like to share my story with you.

Sure, I have always cooked at home and my mom shared great recipes with me as a young girl, however, my passion for cooking began in a class called pro start in High school. I realized cooking brought me a sense of focus, so peaceful and full of joy. I wanted to be Emeril Lagasse (world-renowned chef).

Years after graduation, I got the opportunity to live in Hawaii for many years . While living there and experiencing all of the many cultures and delicious food, I was again reminded of how much I enjoyed that class. I enrolled in a private culinary school - Gros Bonnet Culinary Academy in Honolulu and it was everything I dreamed it would be. I felt honered to have met such great chefs from different places and backgrounds with such professionalism, skills, great recipes and all the experience they could share. I graduated with a culinary diploma in 2014.

Through out the years I continued to work in the hospitality and restaurant business to continue to add to my profession. But my real and life changing experience came while working in an assisted living rehab clinic. There, I met a very sweet elderly woman who was always the first to roll her wheel chair out of her room at 7 am and just watch me set up. I would bring her coffee and occasionally have some words with her. Many of the patients there were not able to chose their own meals due to medical restrictions or simply because they didnt remember what they liked or disliked, their memories were slowly fading. Family members would bring recipes for our chefs and cooks to recreate for them, some were childhood favorites and others traditionally family recipes passed through generations. I soon realized that it wasnt just cooking that made me happy it was the effects it has on us. That one recipe that has the ability to take you back to a happy place, that one recipe that has the ability to bring a young couple together forever. That was my Joy in cooking for others. And, just like her name, Joy, I will never forget her kind words.

For the past two years I have taken some time off to raise and grow my family, but now, I am ready to share and bring as much Joy to others while cooking as others have brought to me.
