Always loved the suikerbos sie!

The famed Sugarbush or Suikerbossie… Protea repens, was South Africa's national flower until 1976. It got its common name, Sugarbush, from the abundance of sweet nectar the blooms produce. The open, funnel-shaped flowers range in colors from red to white + even two-tones (like these beauties) with some that flare open in a very spectacular fashion. 🍃🌸🍃

I am so happy that you can get proteas so frequently now in the US. I am from South Africa the native County of proteas.

Ever wonder why this fabulous family of flowers and foliage was named Protea? It was Carl Linnaeus, a famous Swedish botanist, who in 1735 classified Proteas. He named them all after the legendary Greek sea god, Proteus, who could change his size and shape at will. He of course, was referring to the amazing diversity of this family’s flowers and foliage as well as their size. Now, as we pivot back into what we call ‘protea season’ we’re once again reminded of their stunning beauty and diversity 🌷🍃🌸

Being from South Africa proteas are an old favorite.

If each flower has a special meaning, then each flower color has one too! Symbolism of flower colors can be traced back in history and up until now many people believe in the meaning of colors. Here on the farm, late summer through fall is all about ‘pink’… especially Pink Ice! Pink is elegant and romantic. Brighter pinks are youthful, feminine and fun; vivid pinks are more passionate and sensual. Pink makes a room feel so inviting and warm. There’s so much to 💕 about Pink! 🌷🌸🌷

Somebody complained on the community message board that I don't post enough proteas. Not one to keep my mouth shut, I immediately retorted that they obviously hadn't looked very hard at this page. Anyway, here are some proteas (some of which are indigenous to South Africa). And where are all these grown? In California!!
