WHY IS THE POINSETTIA CALLED THE CHRISTMAS FLOWER?

Haven't you always wondered about it?
There’s no denying that poinsettias make bright, festive decorations during winter months. But they’re native to Central America, particularly southern Mexico, and they’re actually colorful leaves, not flowers. So why do we consider them the official Christmas flowers anyway?
The reason we associate poinsettias with the holidays come from an old Mexican legend.
A young girl named Pepita was sad that she didn’t have a gift to leave for the baby Jesus at Christmas Eve services.
Her cousin tried to comfort her and said that Jesus would love any present from her, even the smallest one.
With no money to buy a real gift, Pepita picked a bouquet of weeds that she walked past on the way to church. (Other versions of the story say an angel came to her and instructed her to pick the plants.) When she got there, she left the weeds at the bottom of the nativity scene.
All of a sudden, the weeds transformed into beautiful red flowers. This is why Christmas colors are red and green.
From that day on, they became known as “Flores de Noche Buena,” or “Flowers of the Holy Night.”- From an article by Claire Nowak, Reader's Digest Jan. 6,2020

As christmas draws near and we are all thinking of the best gifts to give, let's always remember that what truly matters is the gift that comes from a sincere heart; much like the humble weeds offered by Pepita from the mexican legend which transformed into beautiful red flowers. Enjoy the magic and charm of the season.

Call Heart and Soul Flowershop at 0919-450-9418/0922-800-3955 and we'll design a lovely arrangement of flowers to add charm as you celebrate this magical season.

WHY ARE FLOWERS CONSIDERED A NECESSITY EVEN IN THIS PANDEMIC?
Simply because flowers make us happy by triggering happy brain chemicals such as Dopamine, Oxytocin, and Serotonin.
In an article by Loretta G. Breuning, Ph.D. from Psychology Today, June 21, 2017, and author of " Habits of a Happy Brain", she wrote that the blossoming of a flower triggers our DOPAMINE because it gives a sense that something special is coming; or that there is an expectation of a reward. Flowers were a huge reward signal in the world our brain evolved in because they marked the coming of abundance after a hungry winter.
OXYTOCIN or the"bonding hormone" creates the nice feeling of social trust- whether romantic love, maternal attachment or group solidarity. We feel the impermanence of flowers and it reminds us that care is necessary to sustain life. Relationships can be as fragile as flowers and the care we give to flowers helps us remember the care that our relationships need.
SEROTONIN is often mentioned in the context of anti-depressants.Flowers can stimulate the "sense of pride" that our mammal brain is looking for. Many of our social rituals exist to satisfy this natural urge in a healthy way. That's why we're always looking for socially acceptable ways to trigger it. Flowers support these rituals whether you give, receive or buy them for yourself.Flowers help you feel important in ways that do no harm.
ENDORPHIN is released after jumping for joy(which is a form of exercise)☺️ upon receiving a bouquet of lovely flowers from a loved one.
So go ahead. Why not trigger the pleasure hormone that needs to be unleashed from within? After all, flowers are definitely a much better mood enhancer than any other artificial alternative.

FUN FACT ABOUT THE EQUADORIAN ROSE:

In July 22, 2018, more than half a million flowers were used to recreate one of Ecuador’s most important archaeological sites.

Using a total of 546,364 roses grown in the mountains of the Pedro Moncayo canton, the region’s government has set a new record for the Largest flower arrangement/structure (number of items) in the town of Tabacundo.
More than 1,500 volunteers of all ages built the beautiful 1,100 m2 building, which is a replica of one of the Cochasquí pyramids, an important natural and archaeological monument in northern Ecuador. Pictures and article by Laura Angel , July 26, 2018 Guinness World Records Website

This mandarin song was first made famous by Taiwanese singer Teresa Tang in 1977. This song, often cited as "one of the most beloved chinese songs of all time", has been interpreted by well-known musicians such as Katherine Jenkins, Shila Amzah, Faye Wong, David Tao, Andy Lau, Leslie Cheung, Jon Bon Jovi, Siti Nurhaliza, David Archuleta, Hayley Westenra, Liberia and Kenny G.
In 2016, South Korean singer Yoona gave it a modern twist in her interpretation of this beloved classic song. Enjoy the music.
It's not surprising to know that flowers, just like a beloved love song, transcends races and generations. Call 0919-450-9418/0922-800-3955 for inquiries.
