With wedding season coming up I have a few tips for the Bride and Groom. Now these are things I like, but I'm pretty sure they would work with any DJ.
Appoint someone you trust as a liaison, you'll have friends and family you may not have seen in months and I'll have questions. It's so much easier to talk to someone as not to bother you during your day.
Don't tell the DJ to "play whatever you want" or give me a list of 100-200 songs I have to play, this will do a disservice to us both. There are so many music genres and I don't know you well enough to "just wing it" and if you give us a huge list, that could take away what we do best, read the crowd and keep the night fun. Instead write down like a dozen or so songs you like, this will give me not only some stuff to play, but will really help with what sort of music you're into.
I've had a few brides bring a 2nd dress to change into for the reception or just after the first dance. your wedding dress is beautiful, but think "can I dance in this for 4 hours?"
Bring a 2nd pair of shoes, I see many ladies dancing barefoot, I would also tell this to all your bridesmaids.
Talk to the DJ, just stop by every once in awhile, tell us how we're doing and any songs you may want to hear.
Give your liaison a schedule and try to follow it, it doesn't have to be perfect, but if you have a lot to do (first dance, father/daughter,Mother/son, Dollar Dance, bouquet toss, garter toss etc) it's best to keep things moving.
If you want a dollar dance, do it early. I suggest in the first 2 hours. Not only do you recoup some of the cost of the wedding, it's also a great time to meet and talk to your guests. I always see this as the first casualty of not following a schedule.
And the MOST important is HAVE FUN! Yes I know weddings are stressful, but this is the time to have a blast. Trust me, you'll regret this if you don't.
