it’s my personal opinion but flowers and candles go hand in hand. there’s nothing like a stunning floral arrangement surrounded by some candles. it really sets the tone for elegance and adds light to whatever venue. candle rentals are usually offered by florist and can offset the cost of having to buy them yourself. most venues require the candles to be enclosed in a glass sleeve to contain the flame, so this is an additional cost.
Here are the different types of candles that may be offered by your florist:
1. Taper Candles (my absolute fav)
2. Pillar Candles (close second)
3. Votive Candles (really cute—think of a shot glass)
4. Tealight Candles (tiny candles)
sb: are you guys finding these videos helpful? i’m low-key thinking of maybe making it a series ✨
bridal bouquets are one of the most important floral items for a wedding day that will be in many of the photos so it’s important to put much thought into it. it’s one of my favorite things to create and it’s always a joy when i hand off the bouquets i create.
here are some helpful tips (for my florist girlies) that have helped me build better bouquets:
1. it all starts with your ingredients. i think it’s 50% ingredients and 50% technique that make a great bridal bouquet. so i say plan your ingredients ahead of time. this takes some practice knowing what quantities of each flower you want to use, but helps in the long run.
2. after processing my ingredients, i pick out the best blooms and set them aside. this is a very important and intentional step because it ensures that the bride gets the best of the best.
3. standing in front of a mirror at some part while building your bouquet has always helped me in looking at the bouquet from different angles.
4. have fun being being creative. the best part of this process is getting to create something one of a kind for someone that no one has never been made before. throw on some music and get creating!
to all the 2024 brides, i hope that you’ll get the opportunity to work with a florist who is committed to creating you something beautiful but also making sure that when you look back on your wedding photos you are in love with all the florals you see.

One of my favorite memories was as a kid going to my cousins wedding. My whole family we drove up to Boston and when we got to the reception, I quickly realized that I wasn’t seated at the grown ups table. They had put me in a room full of kids (the audacity lol). At the time I was either 10/11 years old so I was a kid too but I was missing out on sitting with all my older cousins and my older sisters.
So here I was in the kiddies room sulking (tbh). They put on a movie and we were eating our pizza. At some point I heard someone calling my name. When I looked at the door, it was one of my older cousins and apparently it wasn’t just him it was my older cousins and my sisters. So I went outside and they’re like Daphnie can you get us a slice of pizza and I’m like a slice of pizza? Aren’t you guys having like a good time? You’re having like grown up food? Apparently they had given them green pea soup and they hated it. So I got the better end of the deal. #kiddietable #pizza #weddingstorytime
this post is meant to educate. there are many behind the scenes processes and details for a florist. most people usually only see the beautiful product delivered to them, but do not know all the many tasks that lead up to that point. it’s helpful for florists show these things to tear down the idea that florist over charge when they hear the word wedding. it’s an absolute lie. from someone who usually works a twelve to sixteen hour day the day before a wedding and then another ten to twelve hours the day of, it’s not true. thats not counting the months of planning, email exchanges, calls, ordering materials and rentals, prepping materials, getting flower recipes right, working with wholesalers, cleaning materials, hiring extra hands, accounting for mishaps and tiny details, changes, add ons and the like. [the day of van loading, set up, design, and breakdown at the end of the night is another story. ] contrary to popular belief, florists charge for the time that goes into this work.
so the real point of this ted talk is to encourage someone to charge for their time. it’s so valuable and YOU’RE so valuable not to do so!🫶🏽🫶🏽
clearing out my drafts and i’m realizing that sometimes i make some cool videos that i really like but never share. am i the only one? i’m hoping this video empowers you to do the same and share the content that you enjoy making. there are so many voices shouting at us on what needs to be shared and sometimes it’s up to us to shut it out to preserve our God given creativity. so cheers to creativity, reels and content that you enjoy, and gifts from God. sb: i really loved this bouquet because it size and the ivy. looking forward to all the bridal bouquets and floral things of all sizes that i’ll make next year.
here is a mini talk through video of how i add variety to my roses by making them larger. when creating a floral arrangement, you definitely want variety in your blooms so i use this semi-reflex method to do just that. first i peel back the individual rose petals using my index finger and thumb. rose petals are really fragile and can tear so its important to be very gentle and take your time. do not rush this process. i’ve noticed that once a petal tears, it will not stay down/ peeled back, but that’s okay because of the last step of this process. i peel the petals back until I have just the middle of the rose left, then i then i turn the petals back upward. after fluffing it out a bit you’ll have a rose that is much bigger than what you originally started out with. i hope this video was helpful and that you try out this method in your next floral arrangement.
