Our good buds, Vito & Art from are opening their second restaurant on East Ave. in Pawtucket. It's called and we were Lucky Enough to design their logos and provide them with a brand kit. We sincerely cannot wait for this place to open! Give them a follow to learn more and watch the renovation unfold.

🦩T-Minus 60 to Little City Thrifty!🦩

That's right, Rhode Island's biggest vintage party is only two months away. Tickets have always sold out in advance, so if you haven't picked up your tickets yet, don't slack. Head littlecitythrifty.com now.

As always, with entry you'll receive a complimentary drink ticket to redeem for your choice of a small 5oz cocktail from Mad River Distillers, beer, or small hot coffee or non-alcoholic beverage. Want a full sized beer or cocktail? You can redeem your drink ticket for $2 off any full sized beer or cocktail from the bar menu!

In addition to the tasty beverages, we'll also have two restaurants and a bakery popping up on site to keep you powered up while you dig through 15,000 square feet of pre-Y2K vinyl records, housewares, art, jewelry, size-inclusive clothing, and so much more.

THE SHORT OF IT: The Hope Street Merchants Association’s Summer Block Party needs to be postponed due to the likelihood of thunderstorms on Sunday. We’ll be enacting our rain date of Sunday, September 15th and we hope you can all join us then!

THE LONG OF IT: Above all else, the HSMA and Ampersand Creative Co. care about helping small businesses, artists, and performers, and our goal with the Hope Street Block Party is to create a fun way for everyone to have a fun and a successful day. Hosting the Block Party involves thinking about a million small details, like delivery of rentals and supplies (product for the bars, portable restrooms, dumpsters, picnic tables, trash and recycling receptacles, a big misting tent to keep you cool, etc.) - and many of these have a cancellation period, after which there is no refund. We organize with the city (permits, street closures, bus rerouting, security and fire detail, etc.) and assemble a team of people to help set up and run the event - and we have to communicate with all of them in advance. Hope Street’s restaurants and the participating food trucks were about to start purchasing and preparing food for an enormous crowd, and they can’t risk the financial loss if we waited to cancel the event at the last minute. For all of those reasons, the HSMA Block Party team met last night, reviewed as much news around the weather as we could, and made the tough decision to reschedule. This was not taken lightly, as it impacts so many businesses and performers, and reorganizing all of the above is not a small or easy task for our little team. Putting participants at risk in unsafe weather conditions is something we can’t do.

We’ll be moving the event to our scheduled rain date of September 15th in hopes of a safer and brighter day for all.

VENDORS & PERFORMERS: Please check your inboxes for an email from us with more information regarding the postponement and next steps. If you have any questions at all, just reach out and ask!

Thanks for all of your support, patience, kindness, and understanding!

Tomorrow we're going to start unveiling this year's poster designs for PVD and BTV. Before we do, we want to re-introduce you to our great friend and illustrator, Pete MacPhee - the man behind Swamp Yankee Art and the designer of The Good Trade's posters since day one. You've more than likely seen his work before without knowing it. For decades, he's been designing posters for local bands and events all the way up to large bands and events like Def Leppard, Dropkick Murphys, and Boston Calling.

We love this year's designs and can't wait to share them with you! Thanks for everything, Uncle Pete.

Keeping our '24/'25 event lineup rolling, we're thrilled to announce our 5th annual ! This is the event that started it all. After Robin spent many years planning, we threw our first RI VegFest in February of 2020 and we haven't looked back since.

We'll be back on February 1st and 2nd for two jam packed days of eating, partying, and shopping with over 85 plant-based vegan restaurants, food and beverage producers, artists, makers, retailers, and so much more. Tickets are on sale and vendor apps are now open at rivegfest.com or the link in bio.

We've been quietly working behind the scenes on our '24/'25 event season and we have A LOT of announcements coming in the next few days. We're kicking things off with the return of GFree Fest on March 22nd and 23rd!

The inaugural GFree Fest was only one-day, and we clearly underestimated the GF community because the event sold out almost two months in advance. This time, we've expended GFree Fest to two full days to allow more GFree Friends to eat, drink, shop, and learn all things GF with us.

VIP and 12pm Entry Tickets are on sale AND vendor apps are open at gfreefest.com.

31/05/2024

Every year, we dedicate two weeks at the end of May to learn about the ~1500 applicants for The Good Trade. We love meeting new businesses, and hearing about how businesses we know have grown and evolved. Curating the events is exciting, but it also takes an emotional toll, as we can only accept about 10% of those who apply. We have to turn away hundreds of perfectly worthy businesses - and we know that there are caring, positive-minded, and community-loving people behind each application. It’s unbelievably hard.

The Good Trade started from our belief that makers need opportunities to introduce themselves to new cities and new faces in order to grow. This is why TGT isn’t only for “local” businesses; we aim for half of our vendors to be from the area that the event is held in, and the other half from all around the country. Locals get a chance to show off their city and play host, and as we expand to new areas, that favor can be repaid when the locals become guests in a new city. That’s "The Good Trade".

This balance gives new (and new-to-us) businesses a chance to join our community, keeps shoppers engaged, provides a positive, eclectic, and diverse environment, and helps the businesses who vend with us be as successful as possible. We strive to showcase both new and established businesses of all kinds who offer goods at different price points, and we work hard to ensure that no category is over-saturated. This year, we had roughly 300 amazing jewelry artists and 200 candle makers apply, but we have to limit each category. There are no right answers - we just try to do our best and know that many will feel disappointed. Turning away close friends, businesses we’ve loved working with, and businesses who have applied for a couple of years in a row that we’d love to work with is not a good feeling.

We'll be contacting all applicants by the end of the day tomorrow, June 1st. To those who applied, we truly appreciate you and what you bring to our communities. We hope this note helps you understand a sliver of our process and how seriously we take it. Whether you’ll be joining us or not, we can’t wait to see you soon.

Love,
The Good Trade

As you may know, we always host a giant, free book swap at all of our events. You can bring in your pre-loved books and drop them right by the entrance, then help yourself to any that catch your eye. One of the questions we get asked the most is, "what do you do with all of the books at the end?" Well... this.

Today, we gathered as many leftover children's books from our book swaps as we could fit into the car (104 apparently) and brought them to our bank, BankRI (big shoutout to our banker, Richard Anderson)! Our eyes may be closed in the photo, but the Bank RI book drive for Books Are Wings is open! Books Are Wings is a non-profit in Rhode Island that works to get free books into the hands of children here in Little Rhody.

Thanks to all who have participated in our books swaps so far. You're not only getting to bring home some new-to-you books for yourselves, but you're able to help your community while you're at it. And thanks for organizing ways to give back, Bank RI. You rule.

We're going to do another drop-off soon, but if you're sitting on any kids books that you no longer need, bring them by your closest Bank RI!

It's Food Waste Action Week, which means that it's the perfect time to remind you that GFree Fest is 100% compostable thanks to Bootstrap Compost and World Centric! That’s right, all of our vendors, restaurants, and even the Inside Voices bar have agreed to serve food and drinks in fully compostable products. Bootstrap will divert our waste from the landfill by turning it into nutrient-rich compost.

PLEASE do your part by putting your waste in the proper clearly labeled bins. If you have any questions about which bin an item belongs in, just ask! We’d be happy to help.

At our previous events, World Centric's compostable goods and Bootstrap's processing power helped us divert over 95% of the waste generated from going to the landfill. They make it easy to go compostable at events, restaurants, offices, and even at home. Be sure to learn more about both composting at GFree Fest in just a couple of weeks!

At RI VegFest earlier this month, we were able to work with World Centric, Bootstrap Compost, and our vendors to divert 1,368 pounds of waste away from the landfill! According to Bootstrap Compost, the waste was almost entirely "light bulky waste," meaning empty cups and plates. There was hardly any food waste in the nearly two dumpsters worth of compostable waste, which is incredible! We're THRILLED to host fully compostable events and can't wait for the next one.
