On the closing day of SFF2025 we were thrilled to launch the new film by artists 'The Milk Report.'
Adapted from an original publication of the same name, it explores the politics and economics of care through the lens of feeding a baby, and the 720 hours Young spent doing so over a 6-month period. The film focuses on the improvised, chaotic, gendered, interdependent and messy nature of reproductive labour. The film was commissioned by Feed, a project about infant feeding and public space.

After the film the artists joined the audience for an in conversation with Elaine Speight. This was followed by a tour of the new 'Nuture' exhibition with curator Joel Hague. (Nurture is on at Woodend art gallery, free of charge March 21st – May 24th 2025)

We had some amazing short film events as part of the festival, with stories from all over the world and from down the road.
First few shots are from our 'Along the Edge, Below the Surface' Screening and Q & A with .ellie, we learnt about the process of putting together her powerful film 'Plunge' and the importance of telling stories through animation and sea-swimming communities.
The next shots are from our 'Regional Shorts Competition.' We had nearly 100 entries with only 10 showcased on the evening, the filmmakers in attendance joined us on stage for a Q & A, whilst the jury deliberated on the winner, we then had some casual and open networking in the bar. We got to meet so many great filmmakers and see so much talent in the short films that were on show across the day.

We are reminiscing about the amazing screenings as part of SFF2025. 🎥🎞
Thanks to the wonderful Simon Heaton for the snaps, first set of pictures are from our sold out Friday night spectacular with a screening of doc 'Dead Mint' followed by a gig from 'Grandad's don't indicate' and at The Railway Club. There was so much joy and community in the room we will not forget it, a real tribute to the band, film, DIY and Scarborough ✨️ 👏
It was hard to pick 20 photos from the event so keep an eye out for further round-ups

The audience struggled with this one with more than one audience member voting for every film in the selection and more than one audience member abstaining from the vote because they enjoyed and admired all ten films for varied reasons.

We loved all 10 films so we’re thrilled that they all proved so popular. However, there was a clear winner when we tallied up the audience votes.

The winner of this year’s audience award is 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Paula Says Hi by James C Thompson.

Congratulations James, Paul/a and your team.

With thanks to our Audience Award sponsor: Stay Yorkshire Coast.
