Just as it is in some African traditions when they do some things that traditionally mark the end of the year.
Some African traditions may do it in the form of new yam festival(s); Some May call it Ezigbo festival or Eze-Ugbo festival etc. Different tribes with their languages but they are all similar or same.
Here in the UK, it is called the Nottin Hill Gate Carnival.
