It's national grief awareness week. This really resonated with me, a great approach to a life well lived.

THE TRAIN OF LIFE 🚂

At birth we board the train and meet our parents ,
and we believe they will always travel by our side .
As time goes by , other people will board the train ,
and they will be significant , i.e. our siblings , friends , children , and even the love of our life .
However , at some station our parents will step down from the train , leaving us on the journey alone .
Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum .
Some however , will go so unnoticed that we don't realise they've vacated their seats .
The train ride will be full of joy , sorrow , fantasy , expectations , hellos , goodbyes and farewells .
Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers , requiring that we give the best of ourselves .
The mystery to everyone is , we do not know at which station we , ourselves , will step down ..
So we must live in the best way , love , forgive and offer the best of who we are .
It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life .
I wish you all a joyful journey ..

"A Celebration of the Life of" is how many of my services begin. A one off life or rather death event. Having suddenly and unexpectedly lost another member of my own family recently, my thoughts turn to celebrating life in the present every day. Today I am celebrating by creating a slideshow for my parents forthcoming joint 80ieth B'day - so grateful they are both still with me. For those of you who have lost a parent or family member my heart goes out to you.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I've always loved peacock feathers and have several in my home. They also have a variety of symbolic meanings going back to various religions and the time of the ancient Greeks - including eternal life. But my question is 'do they bring bad luck?' Surely not.

Dilemmas of a celebrant. I’ve been asked to do a ceremony that is extremely religious. I’ve advised them to get a priest but they are adamant they want a celebrant. They have asked me to do a mass and give out the bread and wine 🙃

What difference does an extra day make?
If you've ever lost anyone, loved anyone. You'll know. It means the world. Hold the ones you love tighter. Tell them how loved they are.

It never ceases to amaze me how generous and appreciative people can be even at the most difficult of times. This bouquet was sent by a family for whom I've delivered two services in the last three months.

Christmas can be a tough time if you have lost someone. I went to see The Nutcracker at The New Vic recently and realised that the Christmas tree is a symbol of connection between those we've lost and us. We hang memories of those passed on our trees. I believe, everyday and especially on Christmas Day they are still connected to us. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
