With cold weather settling in and winter well on its way, our blooms are long gone. Our hands are itching to get creative making some holiday arrangements. We’ve toyed with the possibility of providing holiday bouquets or centrepieces and would love to see how many of you are interested. They would be locally foraged, rustic yet soft, with pops of colour from a holiday palette of flowers and berries. We’d like to have two options, one being a holiday bouquet for $50, and the other choice being a centrepiece for your table with a vessel to keep for $90. And just like that, flower season finished. Dahlias have been dug, cleaned, divided, and stored. Garlic is in the ground. Tulips and daffs will be planted…soon. Waiting to see if the snow will melt off of the prepared beds or if we’ll have to take it off ourselves.

November is here! Though the physical work in the field is done, we will now begin to plan and dream for next years crops. ✌️ 💐

It is hard to believe our first flower growing year has come to a close. There is snow in the forecast for our area. The gardens are almost ready for winter. Just a few more chores to complete. It will be lovely to have everything prepared to begin again in the Spring.

We’ve learned many lessons these last 3 seasons and are so thankful for what the garden has taught us. A few things we’ve taken away from our first year:

💐 Time is precious. Time is crucial. Time is limited. There are only so many hours in the day, yet we need to be more careful not to focus all of them on one thing. There were some evenings spent in the field with a headlight on, gathering as many blooms as possible.. It wasn’t ever worth stretching ourselves that thin. Some nights it was beneficial..definitely for our mental health at times. Finding balance this year was a struggle. And finding “balance” is necessary in all areas of life. We’ll let you know when we finally reach that 😆

🪴 Must. Keep. Up. With. W**ds. When we weren’t diligent about keeping weeds at bay, they quickly took over. This ended up taking more time and energy than we had allotted for daily gardening maintenance. W**d prevention must be higher on the priority list next Spring.

🌻 Humility. Ohhh how the garden (& those pesky 🦌) sure humbled us. Hours and $$ thrown into the sunflower gardens only to be outwitted by the deer. Hundreds of sunflowers were devoured in late August. We had been so careful in planning our successions to ensure we had blooms until October. Not sure we will ever again grow sunnies again for cutting. It was just too devastating to lose those.
