McDaniel-Tichenor House National Registry for Historical Places Built in 1887 for Governor Henry McDaniel, this historical landmark is on the National Register for Historical Places.

Once the home of three generations of the McDaniel and Tichenor families, it is now a non-profit organization for the benefit of the community. We provide historical tours and special events to include weddings, bridal showers/luncheons, rehearsal dinners, business parties, or any special event for private rentals as well as our own events.

We obviously cherish the history of this home AND also we love making new memories.

Recently, we hosted an etiquette class for the Boys & Girls Club.

Topics included:
- Setting tables
- Dinner conversations
- Eye contact
- Hand shakes
- Thank you notes

All of our board members are giving back to the Walton County community and volunteering their time in the service of others.

The mantle is original to the house and the library still contains many volumes from Governor McDaniel's original collection.

This beautiful portrait of Emily Burney Tichenor, wife of Henry McDaniel Tichenor (grandson of Governor Henry McDaniel):

Emily:
- Was instrumental in having the home placed on the National Register of Historic Places
- Teamed up with her friend and county historian, Anita Butts Sams, and helped publish a collection of civil war letters of Governor Henry McDaniel to his fiance, Hester Felker, under the title of "With Unabated Trust."

The staircase is original to the house although the newel post has been changed and the doors and windows at the landing have been changed.

- Established what we know today as the Georgia Institute of Technology
- Helped plan the construction of Georgia's State Capitol building
- Was an influential contributor to the University of Georgia, sitting on the Board of Trustees for 38 years
- Made investments in railroads and local cotton mills, driving economic development
