On our 266th Select, we bring you Karam Touba, a Dubai-based selector, DJ, former resident at the Rave Movement parties, and current organizer of the Decibel DXB event series. He has been spinning in the region’s electronic music circuit since 2003, beginning his DJ career by playing drum ‘n bass and jungle before eventually venturing into techno. His sets usually feature selections of dark, deep and hypnotic musical pieces that create an everlasting impact on the dancefloor wherever he goes.

Karam brings his signature ‘Proper Techno, No BS’ set to our Select series. The set is a 72-minute mix of pure classic rave vibe and straight-to-the-face techno smack. Better put on those shades for this one.

Tbilisi you’ve been really fun (and cold) 🖤✨

I ate too much and I drank semi red wine too much but that didn’t matter since I’ve been walking around everywhere. & I barely cared to took photos or videos. Just immersed myself in the city as much as possible!

Yes, I went to Bassiani, Khidi, & Tes and it was a lovely way to reenergize & remind myself why I love what I love in the first place 🌹

Back in Dubai now and can’t wait to start 2024 🔥

Hello everyone 👋

2023 has been a pivotal year for me & I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to support our local selectors & producers. I got a couple of things I’m working on to support our local DJs 🖤 this doesn’t stop & shouldn’t

In the meantime, I would like to thank the 100+ who joined me in building our community radio in the UAE, and I thank & congratulate all the local talent who participated in this journey

I also want to give thanks to the regional DJs from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, India, Jordan & Lebanon who came down to perform & participate in our music scene! Still blows my mind some took a flight to come down to perform. Thank you 🙏

I won’t be hosting the next season of MiZa Radio, and this decision is the right one because with grassroots cultural movements & initiatives, it shouldn’t be a sole person leading it, but a collective of passionate curators & operators taking MiZa Radio where it needs to go 🙌

Thank you for the trust. We are all looking forward to the new season 🎈

MiZa Radio is coming to .ae 🔥

This will be the first time MiZa Radio steps outside of Abu Dhabi & into the beating heart of Arts & Culture - Al Serkal Avenue in Dubai

I’m proud to announce that I have curated a 3 day localized programming for the second edition of Festival X of this year - 📆 October 6, 7 & 8 (this coming weekend)

The program consists of:

🔊 Local excellence of audio art performances on the main stage in A1 Warehouse

🎙️Local speakers using their experiences & talents from their respective industries who contribute to the ever evolving music scene in the UAE in Warehouse 46, Mezzanine floor

📝 Local moderators who will ensure the questions bring back valuable answers from local & international speakers of which you get inspiration from that leads to implementation

💿 One-of-a-Kind workshop open to the first 10 participants who want to try a fresh approach in musical expression (no prior experience required)

I’m very grateful for the opportunity & the trust to lead this on 💪 & I’m looking forward to speak on one of the panels so you get more of my heart & mind

We have reached a milestone that I would like to share with you. MiZa Radio has hosted 100 local artists from across the music spectrum, and that includes regional artists as well who flew here to participate

Occupying a digital space is vitally important for our visibility in the region & globally. So far, we have established a presence that dispelled many wrong perceptions about our music scene, & a platform that brought everybody together under the banner of music & self expression., including DJs getting booked after their performance at MiZa Radio. We have a plethora of sounds, & we should all be proud of the diversity that we are all part of

I thank you from the deepest corner of my heart for participating & contributing your talents in our beautiful community radio in the UAE 🇦🇪 & thanks for the gifts of vinyl records that makes any music lover smile

Grateful to have been invited to the Abu Dhabi Sessions panel & spoke on the UAE music scene & its beginnings built by grassroots movements from those before us, and by some who still exist today, with the addition to new communities emerging & contributing to a very old story

We spoke about the redistribution of resources that have traditionally been given to international acts for decades (import culture), having a top-down approach to support local artists & events, grassroots DIY ethos, and being curious to local subcultural experiences. I’ve shared common sense solutions to very old problems, and more importantly I’ve emphasized on the need to have ‘heartfelt’ intentions to look & find local artists performing in local events with an open heart & mind

As a long standing witness to independent subcultures & unparalleled underground event experiences for 20 years in the UAE, the idea that we don’t exist & have no history is simply incorrect. Yes we are hard to find, but we do exist ✌️

I am beyond honored & proud to present to you MiZa radio - a platform to make our presence known in the region & the world 🌍

Before I get into the long introduction, I would like to begin giving a heartfelt & genuine appreciation to the team at who made this all happen. Their contribution to build this space is crucial for the betterment of our music scene, and you all know I’m always on board for that since day 1 👊 I couldn’t be more happier to work with amazing people, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be given the role to move this forward 🚀

MiZa radio is a space for DJs to play their music, with the latest industry standard equipment, and designed as your standard DJ booth that allows your ‘flow state’ to emerge as you perform, while being live-streamed online on our YouTube channel ⚡️

The main purpose of gathering performances in the digital space, is to create a national archive of talents who reside in the UAE 🇦🇪 It also allows for their fan base, and the multiple communities who are fans of certain genres of music to discover, engage and enjoy our locally based performers 🖤

But that’s not all…

The Alley, where MiZa Radio resides, has multiple cargo containers where you can showcase art installations, workshops, or anything you have in mind. After a successful launch & several pop up events, this magical place has gathered a multitude of people who share interests & passions for art, food, fashion & music 🔥

My dear DJs, your contribution with your skills is a crucial step to solidify & strengthen the foundation that was built before us, and it’s up to us to develop it and take it to the level that it deserves 🙌

Hello ✌️😁

My time at Ravestomp festival:

My set timing was moved around & there were some techy issues at play. I’ve also had to cut my set shorter because there were a number of things that needed to be done. So the promoter in me needed the tech peeps to lift the CDJs & mixer as the table was quite low. They also needed to add a third CDJ as well, & was up next, and especially the rest of the gang who were playing after.

Did the emergency loop hellhole happen? Oh yes it did. But with hypnotic techno it’s absolutely fine because that’s the point 😂🙌 an endless loop to hellfire is what we like, at least I do.

I was quite happy that some of the issues happened on my set because we had 4 international guests and I wouldn’t want anything happening during their sets. Doing the right thing is far more important than the insistence of finishing my time slot. Cuz it was never about me, but about us 🪬

More importantly, I’m happier to have met them, because it’s always nice to know the people who inspire you .system 🖤 this includes enjoying their performances as well 🔥

Thank you Shine & everyone involved for making this wonderful event happen, and reflecting your passion with building a stage for hypnotic techno to thrive 🌀
