This was our most recent job. We built a permanent three cubicle toilet for Healing Spirit Festival which will be happening next weekend.
The main objective was to build a toilet with a view.
Only messing, but the view is good.
This is a new design. Chunkier lengths of wood, more space in each cubicle and with a skylight plastic roof. Inner workings are the same as our others.
The toilet stands on big stones of gravel. And there's a soak away behind the loo.

All changes made were Geroid's suggestions.👍. I learnt lots from this build. Hope to be up in Killashandra again soon,

Our aim is to provide an alternative to the commonly used portaloos that populate all out door events in Ireland. Like people used to do over a hundred years before now, before water flush loos, we are putting ‘Night soil’ back to good use!

In the olden days, before Mr Crapper’s flush toilet became the standard loo, workers used to take this ‘dirty’ soil from the cities and to the farms where it was used as fertiliser for growing crops. We do the same; we’ll grow flowers and fruit trees and hopefully make festivals more beautiful places. After many different festival experiences and a growing desire for a compost alternative, here we are!

We wouldn’t have started without Thunderbox Compost Toilets in the UK. The general look of our back to back toilet is based off of their design, while the inner workings are different. Dave, Rosie and Rob have been very generous to talk to me about their building methods and answering my questions.

Our price is competitive with the plastic portaloos thanks both to having our own wood to work with from the Woodbrook forestry and also to the free labour available at our disposal. I refer to the army of worms and tiny creatures that digest raw manure and turn it into rich compost. For these little guys, time is the only requirement!

Last weekend we brought a couple of doubles to the Borris festival of writing and Ideas. People said lovely things about them. I owe lots to the people that have helped me along the way.
There's a man in Bunclody who works a thumping production line.
Shifting the easy wheelers and inventing draining methods and levelling ground and pulling down dead trees are all things I've been lucky to have help with!
