Finally sharing some amazing photos from .lalic and special day up in the Gold Coast. Start to finish, this was a seriously special ceremony for me, having been friend with George and Mel since our baby days in year 11! 💕

This ceremony was so magic, full of love and laughs, and complete with an unexpected rain shower as soon as George started his vows (literally have goosebumps just writing about that moment!). Not to mention a dance floor second to none.

What a privilege it was to get these two soul mates married.

Ok last night was something else.

Just a couple of 10’s smiling, laughing and crying their way through the most fun ceremony before getting ready to tear up the dance floor all night. 🪩

Check list for the best day:
-Their two adorable boys walking down the aisle (and getting a lollipop from the maid of honour at the end)
-The epic story of how this relationship got off the ground after a little false start.
-Matt referring to Sal as a ‘loose unit on the piss’ during his vows and Sal saying there’s still no one she’d rather get on the piss with. Iconic.
-The biggest ever party after years of delays (these guys were my last Covid re-book, and safe to say everyone partied accordingly!)

Now you see me.. now you don’t.

I still get couples saying to me ‘and we just want to check that you’ll be out of the frame for the first kiss’… and the answer is absolutely yes!

There are some moments where I’ll stand in the middle, for example during the legal vows. But for the most part, I’ll stand off to the side, and for the first kiss, I’ll be like a ninja, moonwalking out of the way so I’m not third wheeling for your special moment!

So while I will bring the vibes and tell a killer story on the day, just know that I’m also detail obssessed and won’t drop the ball on the legal requirements of your marriage.

Telling love stories > replying to emails.

Three things I love about this job:
1. I get to unleash my inner creative writer. These skills spend most of the weekend locked away deep, being a celebrant is the opposite of being a lawyer in many ways.
2. I get to meet amazing human beings in love. Sometimes I lucky enough to meet their little people and their fur babies too!
3. I get to wear fun outfits that can’t get ruined by my kids sticky hands. 😂

On the outside: cool, calm, collected
Deep down: watching the black storm clouds rolling in and wondering if I can physically speak any faster (answer, no, not really) 😂

But there was a happy ending, we literally just finished, and the stoked newlyweds (and their puppy/ring bearer) made their way back down the aisle before the skies opened up and we all ran for cover 🌧️

Let’s talk about imposter syndrome. I had this chat last week in my DMs with an absolutely incredible Canberra photographer. I was doing the thing of like ‘I hope the ceremony was good, I was nervous I didn’t pull off XYZ’ and she was all like ‘omg did you like the gallery? I hope the couple loved the photos!’.

And, I was like ‘OF COURSE THEY LOVED THE PHOTOS! They’re stunning and captured the day so perfectly’ and she was like ‘loved the ceremony, it was amazing!’

I also had a chat with some of my fabulous celebrant colleagues and we were all rattling off a list of things we have had nightmares about (missing a ceremony, equipment not working, wearing a dress the same as the bridesmaids etc etc etc). And literally those things have not happened, but they take up our brain space nonetheless! But we spent the whole conversation hyping up each other and like doubting ourselves!

But it just reminded me that some days were just faking it until we make it, even if it seems like we have it all together. And really at the end of the day, what you want are vendors who care enough about your day to lose sleep over it, obsessing over every detail to make sure it’s perfect.

So here’s to feeling the imposter syndrome and doing the thing anyway! 💕

I get asked all the time how long personal vows should be. The answer is ‘as long as you like’! Your vows are your chance to speak to your partner in your own words, so make it as short or long as you like. I’ve married a couple of university academics who had the most incredible long vows, I’ve done weddings where the vows were written together and matched, and where the vows were just a couple of short dot points each. It’s your moment so make it reflect you and your relationship. *I promise NONE of your friends will make fun of you- I just really wanted to use this Tay song 😉 🎵 Ask any wedding guest what their fav part of the ceremony is, I promise they’ll say the vows! 💕
