Episode 071 of The Grey Area on Noods Radio is now online, and is a look back at 2023 through the lens of the live music I was lucky enough to witness.

Music from the likes of Avalanche Kaito, RICHARD DAWSON, Wyatt E, Moin and loads more.

Dunno why it's taken me so long to post about this!

Episode 070 of The Grey Area on Noods Radio is available to listen back.

I spent an hour digging into a few different alt/experimental/angular rock sounds, mostly from the 90s to now, but a couple of older bits thrown in for good measure.

Music from the likes of Slint (official) Big ‡ Brave BO NINGEN Swans

Back in the Noods Radio studio on Monday and wasn't sure what to play.

I’ve mostly been listening to Metal and Folk recently, but didn’t fancy doing a special on either of those right now. Also we’ve just moved house so all of my records are in boxes.

What you’re getting is an hour of (for want of a better term) Alt Rock? Expect music from Slint, Swans, Big Brave, Bo Ningen, Housewives, Sans etc

Back on Noods Radio again next Monday.

It's episode 69 on September the 11th, so I should probably be doing some kind of Taliban/CIA P***o soundtrack special, but I'd need longer to prepare.

Really enjoyed just winging it last month, so guess what? I'm doing it again. I'll pack some tunes on the day and we'll see where we end up.

I've been MIA a fair bit from the Noods Radio airwaves this year, mostly just down to poor planning on my part, but I'm back in the studio this coming Monday for an hour of.......I don't know.

I’ll just grab a load of music last minute and see where the old Gods take us.

With the recent demise(?) of Schwet (RIP), I thought it only right to record an hour of music solely from artists I've seen play live in Bristol at Schwet shows over the last 10 years. Limiting it to an hour was pretty tricky!

Adam's introduced me to a lot of cool music since I moved here, so open up your ear-holes (and minds) and get it in ya!

I’m really sorry to bring this news so close to the show, but I’m going to have to cancel/postpone Thursday’s event due to some personal circumstances.

I have a date booked in for September 21st at Kino already, so will do my best to get all 3 acts on the bill for that date instead. Tickets have already been refunded (processing time may take a few days) and again I’m very sorry.

This is the first event I’ve ever had to cancel, and hopefully the last.

Cheers

With the final Schwet event in the books (hopefully just for now and not forever!), I wanted to play an hour of music by artists I've seen perform at their events over the last 10 years. Some I knew already, but a lot of them I discovered just by attending the events.

No doubt Adam will scorn this spotlight, so I'll try to keep the backslapping and fe****io to a minimum.

Super stoked to have recorded a mix/video for My Analog Journal at their studio in London.

It's all tear jerking, sad songs from around the world.

Have a listen and let me know what you think, and of course any help sharing it around etc would be amazing!

This month's edition of The Grey Area is an hour of new records I've picked up in recent times. All things I've neglected to play on the radio until now.

Starting with some beautiful acoustic psychy numbers, then some international groovy bits, and finished with some pointed, 80s Post Punk/New Wave 45s.

Tracklist in the comments. Enjoy!

Here it is then. Something very different to my usual output.

1 hour of assorted metal music, and mostly stuff that has caught my ear in the last few years.

There was a wee issue with the recording so the first minute or so is missing (including my intro to the show) but I'm sure you'll survive.

Strap yourselves in.

Here we go then. My first attempt at a more research based, educational radio program.

1 hour of beautiful Ethiopian Jazz, with a brief history of the genre and some of its defining artists.

I've taken the helm of the Through The Years show this week, with a 1 hour focus on Ethio-Jazz.

Switched things up in my presentation as well, with a far more journalistic approach. Did my research, gave some history on musicians and the scene as a whole, and all round sounded more like a music journo. (Apologies in advance if my pronunciations are off.)

Either way it's punctuated with beautiful Ethiopian music, so have yourselves a listen!

In Communities and Local Government (CLG) questions today I raised the case of The Surrey Vaults, the Bristol music venue which was recently forced into closure following noise complaints from a recent development nearby. An increasing number of venues are under threat, and the Culture Secretary has told campaigners that she is in discussions with her CLG colleagues about introducing an ‘Agents of Change’ principle into planning law, to ensure developers have to take into account pre-existing businesses. The Ministers didn’t seem aware of any such discussions, but I am pleased to have been promised a meeting with the Planning Minister so that I can convince him of the need for action.
