Trinidad Carnival Traditions: Fancy Sailor 🇹🇹💃

As you parade through the streets during carnival, you might catch sight of the Fancy Sailor, easily recognized with his bright colors, oversized hats, large shoulder pads, and flowing capes. 🎭

This costume evolved from the traditional Sailor mas, which itself was inspired by the uniforms and behavior of sailors who visited the island. The Fancy Sailor style emerged as a more elaborate and flamboyant version of the original Sailor mas. ✨

We tip our (sailor) hats to this cultural legacy!

A year we won't soon forget -- 2023 -- The Return of Trinidad Carnival!

Did you know that, prior to COVID, the last time Trinidad had to cancel Carnival was back in 1972 due to a polio outbreak?

After a two-year COVID-hiatus, the Greatest Show on Earth returned in 2023, bringing its unmatched energy and a sense of unity like never before; from stunning costumes like FEMME FATALE designed by Laura Naryansingh for BLISS 2023 Carnival, to pumpin' soca beats and jammin' down de street, 2023's carnival is a testament to our resilience and creativity, showcasing the incredible talent and enduring spirit of Trinidad and Tobago.

Thank you to everyone who made this incredible comeback possible, filling our streets with color and joy.
