Can’t wait for the first instalment of The Ha’penny Sound Walk this Sunday! 🚶‍♀️🎧🚶‍♂️
It’s an exciting collaboration between Dr Sally Rodgers and Dr Steve Jones (a.k.a electronic music producers A Man Called Adam Saltburn Valleys and Base Camp Industries. There will be two chances to experience this spellbinding audio adventure - this Sunday (28 July - to coincide with Saltburn Food Festival, and then again for the final time on Sunday 8 September. Times for both days are 10am-2pm and 4pm-8pm.
Commissioned as part of the Borderlands Creative People & Places Creative Communities programme, the walk has been inspired by the Ha’penny Bridge that once spanned Saltburn’s Beautiful Valley Gardens and has been designed to celebrate Henry Pease’s visionary dream to build a beautiful seaside resort with hotels, a funicular, pier, model railway and landscaped gardens.
Expect an intriguing concoction of audio snippets and original sounds specifically designed to tickle and tease the imagination.
From its inception in the 19th Century to the buzzing café culture and community pride of modern Saltburn, you’ll encounter hints of past times - a natural, rural and watery landscape of fishing, farming and smuggling - and travel through time via the sounds of rapid industrialisation, world wars, demolition, seaside attractions, cycling, surfing and more.
This is a one-off audio adventure, designed to thrill and inspire, created specifically by the artists for this glorious outdoor setting.

The Creative Communities Awards are designed to bring creative ideas to life across the cultural landscape of Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland and funded by Borderlands Creative People & Places as part of Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme.
The Saltburn Valleys CIO was formed in 2017 with the aim of preserving the landscape, heritage, buildings and wildlife of Saltburn Valley, Hazel Grove and Saltburn Gill.

The Southmartins bring their high energy, feelgood, hit-packed Caravan of Love back to the Boro for Christmas 2024!

The clue’s in the name of course. This is an inspired mash-up of two of the 80s/90s’ most iconic, all-round joyous (and lyrically mischievous) pop acts – the Beautiful South and the Housemartins.
Sing your heart out to Beautiful South anthems including Perfect 10, You Keep it all In, Rotterdam, and the ‘I love you from the bottom of my pencil case’ Song for Whoever. And then you can do that trademark dance to Housemartins hits such as Happy Hour, Me and the Farmer, and of course Caravan of Love.

Very special ‘Evening with’ Simon and Oscar from OceanColour Scene last night at ARC Stockton Arts Centre.

First time we’ve seen this format of the show, and it sounded great – surprisingly rich for a stripped down format. And some great wry delivery from singer Simon.

Thanks to Simon Shaw for some great show pics, delivered before 9am the next day [he’s good that man]

Despite being a Leeds based label, the 2 founders are from Teesside, so to celebrate a decade as an indie label, they return to the the North East for a special event at Base Camp on Saturday 26 November.
