Actor:
The name of the town is Eastbourne just across the harbour from Wellington, New Zealand; Latitude 41° south and Longitude 174° east. The sun is beginning to shine just past Butterfly Creek.
My production role is dramaturgy, which involves paying particular attention to the themes and relationships of the play to make sure we communicate them adequately, as well as considering pronunciation and historical context. This has helped develop my research skills, as well as making me consider aspects of the text to which I may not otherwise have paid much attention.
I play the character of George Gibbs, who is simultaneously very dedicated and very distracted. My favourite part of playing this character is being able to channel a lot of positive energy into it; while he's got his flaws, he's fundamentally very much a good person. I would hope that playing George has reminded me to enjoy and appreciate every day, and indeed if the audience is going to take away any thematic vibes from the show, I reckon it'd be along those lines.
Character:
I am George; eldest/cleverest child of the Gibbs family and a notoriously good boy. I guess school's okay, but algebra's a bit of a struggle. I'm much happier when I'm on the baseball pitch; and people tell me I'm pretty good! I also love spending time with friends like Lizzie and Bob and Herb and Joe and, um, Emily Webb is good too I guess, yeah. If I didn't live in Grover's Corners I reckon I'd set up a decent farm. Probably somewhere pretty close though. I wish a few more people knew that I'm not actually that ambitious. I'm just happy with, er, being happy, I guess.
