Introducing...
Oliver Pol as George Gibbs

Name: Oliver Pol
Dogs or Cats: Big & Good Dogs
Favourite Holiday Destination: The island where they filmed the hit film Mamma Mia, where I will re-enact the entirety of hit film Mamma Mia
Stay in or Go Out: If bad and scary things are occurring in one of these locations, I shall go to the other, for adaptability is key to survival.
Favourite Quote in the Play: "Students' ears are falling off. It ain't Christian."
Favourite Flower: Daffodil
City or Country: Countries are bigger than cities, so I'll have some of those thank you
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Ooh a lovely little lime please

Actor:
The name of the town is Eastbourne just across the harbour from Wellington, New Zealand; Latitude 41° south and Longitude 174° east. The sun is beginning to shine just past Butterfly Creek.

My production role is dramaturgy, which involves paying particular attention to the themes and relationships of the play to make sure we communicate them adequately, as well as considering pronunciation and historical context. This has helped develop my research skills, as well as making me consider aspects of the text to which I may not otherwise have paid much attention.

I play the character of George Gibbs, who is simultaneously very dedicated and very distracted. My favourite part of playing this character is being able to channel a lot of positive energy into it; while he's got his flaws, he's fundamentally very much a good person. I would hope that playing George has reminded me to enjoy and appreciate every day, and indeed if the audience is going to take away any thematic vibes from the show, I reckon it'd be along those lines.

Character:
I am George; eldest/cleverest child of the Gibbs family and a notoriously good boy. I guess school's okay, but algebra's a bit of a struggle. I'm much happier when I'm on the baseball pitch; and people tell me I'm pretty good! I also love spending time with friends like Lizzie and Bob and Herb and Joe and, um, Emily Webb is good too I guess, yeah. If I didn't live in Grover's Corners I reckon I'd set up a decent farm. Probably somewhere pretty close though. I wish a few more people knew that I'm not actually that ambitious. I'm just happy with, er, being happy, I guess.

Thought of the Week:

When discovering what ‘Our Town’ means to us, we looked to our own home towns and what they represent to us.
Take a moment today, to appreciate your hometown and how it shaped the person you have become. What initially springs to mind?

Introducing....
Jodi Norris as Emily Webb

Name: Jodi Norris
Dogs or Cats: Cats for sure!
Favourite Holiday Destination: San Francisco
Stay in or Go Out: Go out, go hard
Favourite Quote in the Play: “I’m bright, too, when I’m looking at my stamp collection.” - Wally Webb pg.22
Favourite Flower: Cherry Blossom
City or Country: Big City Life
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Chocolate but it has to be thicccc

The name of the town is Auckland, just on the East Coast of New Zealand
Latitude 36.85 and Longitude 174.8. The sun is beginning to shine just behind the fluffy clouds that hover over Rangitoto.

My production role is Dramaturgy, this involves defining all the alien words in the play, making sure pronunciation is correct and historical accuracy is thought of. I recap, analyse and articulate the themes of the play. The skills I am learning through this role are useful in my every day to day life as I can filter through representation in presentation as well as look up pronunciations very quickly, knowing which youtube channels to trust.

I play the character of Emily. I think this character is an unrealised intellectual who is emotionally and philosophically aware of her present self. My favourite part of playing this character is revealing her internal strength. My most challenging part of playing this character is trying not to be a nervous wreck. The biggest lesson this character has taught me is to see the beauty in the everyday.

The most exciting part through this whole collaboration is working with beautifully talented people who share and intensify my passion for theatre. Most importantly, I would like the audience to take away from the show: an appreciation for Grover’s Corners and Thornton Wilder.

A few words.....
I am Emily. The sister of Wally, daughter of Myrtle and Charles. My biggest contribution to Grover’s Corners is my role as High School Secretary and Treasurer. I am most happy when I am walking home from school with George. If I didn’t live in Grover’s Corners I would live in Washington because I would love to make speeches there. My biggest motto in life is “Try to aim for perfection with a sense of humility knowing you never will be”. What I wish people knew about me: I prefer Strawberry phosphates over ice cream sodas.

Introducing....
Erin Kennedy as Woman of the Dead

Name: Erin Kennedy
Dogs or Cats: Both! Don’t make me choose!
Favourite Holiday Destination: Any ski field with fresh snow and blue skies.
Stay in or Go Out: Go out for sure!
Favourite Quote in the Play: “Do human beings ever realise life while they live it? Every, every minute?”
Favourite Flower: Purple periwinkle
City or Country: City
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Caramel

Actor:
The name of the town is Mt Eden in the middle of Auckland, New Zealand.
Latitude 36.8802’S and Longitude 174.7616’S. The sun is beginning to shine just over Mount Eden, as the Aucklanders wake up to begin their traffic filled commute to work.

My production role is well-being squad assistant. This involves making sure everyones health, safety and mental wellbeing is being taken care of. I assist my team in leading warm ups, well-being activities including organising that everyone is well fed during long rehearsals.
The skills I am learning in this role is the importance of organising in advance to ensure the most benefits for all is had.

I originally played the character of Rebecca Gibbs. I think this character is misunderstood and is not as smart as she thinks she is. My favourite part of playing this character is how bluntly George (her older brother) shuts her down. This creates a clear sibling relationship that may be relatable to many viewers! However, due to health reasons I chose to withdraw from this character and focus on being a choral member of Grovers Corners instead.

The most exciting part of this process is seeing it all come together. I would like the audience to take away from the show the idea of realising how lucky we are to be alive in this earth, living and breathing every day. We take so much in life for granted, and this play reminds you of exactly that.

A few words...
I am Mrs Carter, Woman of the Dead. I am most happy when I am actually being listened too. If I didn’t live in Grover’s Corners I would live in Mexico because I enjoy spicy food. My biggest motto in life is you should always uphold social standards under any circumstance. What I wish people knew about me, I am worth listening to – I promise.

Introducing....
Emily Bates as Rebecca Gibbs

Name: Emily Bates
Dogs or Cats: DOGS for sure!
Favourite Holiday Destination: Would love to go to Vietnam
Stay in or Go Out: Go Out
Favourite Quote in the Play: “…That’s all human beings are! Just blind people.” -Emily(96)
Favourite Flower: Daisy
City or Country: Country
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Banana

Actor:
The name of the town is Stratford positioned in the heart of Taranaki, just on the West Coast of New Zealand.
Latitude 39.34 degrees and Longitude 174.28 degrees. The sun is beginning to shine just over the distant Central Plateau, reflecting on Mount Taranaki.

My production role is lead publicist, this involves co-ordinating the advertising, ticketing, and all public communications revolved around the show. The skills I am learning through this role are useful in my every day to day life, is the importance of time management.

I originally played the character of Woman in the Balcony and Woman of the Dead. I think these characters are misunderstood. My favourite part of playing these character is the freedom of their backstories. My most challenging part of playing this character is having to invent a purpose and motivation for them. The biggest lesson this character has taught me is any role is an important role. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was asked to step up and fill the position of Rebecca Gibbs, who I will now be playing in the production.

The most exciting part through this whole collaboration is seeing everyone’s different ideas coming together to create the final product. Most importantly, I would like the audience to take away from the show that life is meant for living, and you shouldn’t waste a single day.

A few words....
Hi my name is Rebecca Gibbs, I live in Grover’s Corners with my family. My biggest contribution to this town is how closely I keep an eye on the moon, to make sure it doesn’t collide with the earth and cause a disaster! I am most happy when I know that I am right and my older brother is wrong. If I didn’t live in Grover’s Corners I would live in another house nearby as I am young and have no money. My biggest motto in life is to always keep trying, even when people tell you should stop trying. What I wish people knew about me is that I really love the colour pink and there is nothing wrong with that.

Introducing...
Liam Whitney as The Crowell Brothers

Name: Liam Whitney.
Dogs or Cats: Love me some kitty cats.
Favourite Holiday Destination: Love me some Melbourne.
Stay in or Go Out: Love me some cheeky brews (go out)
Favourite Quote in the Play: Love me some “Don’t let down the team, Big Boy” – Big Boy #1
Favourite Flower: Love me some tulips.
City or Country: Love me some cities.
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Love me some Moro milkshakes.

The name of the town is Silverstream, just on the outskirts of Wellington. Latitude 41° S and Longitude 175° E. The sun is beginning to shine just over Rimutaka ranges now.

My production role is Movement, this involves devising and constructing all of the stylised movement for the show. I mainly work with the ensemble in creating large movement pieces, but I also have been working with the whole cast on various Laban techniques to aid in their characterisations.

I play the characters of Joe and Si Crowell. I think these characters are quite relatable to me personally, as they both show the same amount of determination to succeed in life as I do (even if it’s only Joe that does so). My favourite part about playing these characters is how they have two completely different personalities, with Joe being the smart one and Si being the sporty one. This does however present a challenge for me to create two contrasting characters, but I am excited by the possibilities.

The most exciting part about the collaboration is being able to create something unique with such a unique group of talented people. Most importantly, I would like the audience to realise how precious our time really is, and that we should make every day count.

Joe
Hey There! I am Joe Crowell Jr. I’m just so excited to meet you! I am the towns local paper boy, so I have to wake up nice and early every day to deliver the paper for EVERYONE in Grover’s Corners. You should come say hi to me some time, I love to chat to everyone and hear about all the amazing things they do. I’m a people person if you didn’t notice! I love to read, sometimes I even spend a whole day just being absorbed in a book at the school library. I’m top in my class for nearly every subject, except P.E (although I wouldn’t really call that a subject). One day I hope to travel the world, but that will be after I study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology once I leave school. Nice meeting you!

Si
Sup. The names Si Crowell. I play Baseball. I’m a lad. I’m a man of few words.

Introducing...
Erica Hyde as Stage Manager

Name: Erica
Dogs or Cats: Pups big and small
Favourite Holiday Destination: Gore
Stay in or Go Out: Indecisiveness
Favourite Quote in the Play: “Choose the least important day. It will be important enough.”
Favourite Flower: Lilies
City or Country: City
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Snickers

Actor:
The name of my town is Christchurch, just across the fault line. Latitude 43 degrees 31 minutes, longitude 172 degrees 38 minutes. The sun is just beginning to go down over in the East there, behind our Port Hills.

In this show, I play the Stage Manager. Stage Manager is a meta-theatrical narrating entity. My favourite part of playing this character is the meta-theatrical-ness, meaning I can have a yarn with the audience directly. My most challenging part of playing this character is all them pesky monologues. The biggest lesson this character has taught me is to perceive eternity as a positive. Most importantly, I would like the audience to take away from the show that “it tells the story of a village set against the stars”: the small things are just as important as the big ❤

Character:
I am the Stage Manager of the theatre. I am not from Grover’s Corners, but I know a lot about it. I am contemplative and thoughtful. I am most interested in life cycles and daily life rituals, and the significance of its contribution to living every minute. My biggest motto in life is “Our own lives are great dramas that anyone can miss.”

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
That’s what it was like to be alive. To move about in a cloud of ignorance; to go up and down trampling on the feelings of those...of those about you. To spend and waste time as though you had a million years.
- Simon Stimson

INTRODUCING...
Sean Pickersgill as Mr Webb

Name: Sean Pickersgill
Dogs or Cats: Big Ol' Woofer
Favourite Holiday destination: Canada
Stay in or go out: Stay in (do you know how much work I have piled up?!?)
Favourite quote in the play: "It ain't Christian."
Favourite flower: Nipplewort
City or Country: City.
Favourite flavour milkshake: A regretful Caramel (Lactose intolerant)

Actor:
The name of the town is Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, smack bang in the centre of England. Latitude 52° N, Longitude 1° W. The sun is begining through the fluffy dulcet clouds, it's golden rays reflecting off the River Severn.
My production role is set design. For me, as a media design student, this included creating a 3d model of the stage. From this I could work out dimensions and render previews of the set before construction ever began! The role also included liaising with the other set designers to create a clear and cohesive vision which served the cast and the story.
I play Mr Webb, husband of Mrs Webb and Father of Emily and Wally Webb. It's fun playing the role of the dad in a show (particularly because it gave me an excuse to grow a dad stache). Mr Webb is particularly pleasant to play as he is a very sweet and considerate father despite the pressures and the conventions of the period. The aspect of Mr Webb that I'll probably carry with me is the love and care he holds for his own family. Though he is the patriarch of his family he is not afraid to be a shoulder to cry on or a warm hug when needed.
This show is going to be fantastic, we have an amazing production team and director, everyone has put so much of themselves into this show, it's going to be stellar!

Character:
My name is Charles Webb, family man first, editor of the 'Grover's Corners Sentinel second. I particularly enjoy small-town life. There's just a special sort of culture and spirit in small towns that try as you might, you just cannot find anywhere else in the country.
Where I'm not afraid to leave my small corner of the world, I'm never happier than when I'm writing the newspaper, mowing the lawn or just sitting and having a fun night in with the family!

Favourite Quote in the Play: “tsk, tsk, tsk potato weather for sure!”
Favourite Flower: Hibiscus ❤
City or Country: Hmm to live in? City, but nothing beats being out in the country
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Chocolate!

Actor:
The name of the town is Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, just on the west coast of New Zealand. Latitude 38 S and Longitude 176 E. The sun is beginning to shine just over the beautiful Mountain, Mount Maunganui. My production role is choral, alongside Bianca. This involves helping to teach the cast songs, harmonies and helping to run vocal warm ups! I play the character of Mrs (Julia Gibbs). I think this character is strong and very loving. My favourite part about playing Mrs. Gibbs is being able to be part of a tight knit family, and learning about her relationships with each of the other characters. The biggest lesson that she has taught me is how important and precious both love and time are. The most exciting part of this whole collaboration is working with such an amazing, talented group of people, as well as having the most amazing director we could ever of asked for! Most importantly, I would like the audience to feel touched and inspired after watching our show, its gonna be a good one!

Character:
I am Mrs (Julia) Gibbs. I am a mother, housewife and friend. I am most happy when I am with my family. If I didn’t live in Grover’s Corners I would live in Paris, France because it is the dream of my life to visit there. My biggest motto in life is ”People are meant to go through life two by two, ain’t natural to be lonesome”.

Dogs or Cats: Cats!! I love my little fur babies. But I do love dogs too.
Favourite Holiday Destination: Rarotonga
Stay in or Go Out: Depends on my mood
Favourite Quote in the Play: You've got to love life to have life, and you've got to have life to love life.
Favourite Flower: Orchid
City or Country: City
Favourite Flavoured Milkshake: Chocolate mmm

Actor:
The name of the town is Mt Eden, right in the middle of Auckland, New Zealand. Latitude 36.8802° S and Longitude 174.7616° E. The sun is beginning to shine just over the top of the great volcano Maungawhau.
My production roles are assistant stage manager and costume department. These involve helping our head stage manager with production matters and helping come up with a costume design and sourcing costumes. The skills I am learning organization and communication skills through this role, which will beuseful in my every day to day life! I play the character of Howie Newsome. I think this character is happy and content with his life in Grover’s Corners.
My favourite part of playing this character is the challenge of representing continuity. My most challenging part of playing this character is playing a man. The biggest lesson this character has taught me is that you can be content with life based on how you choose to live it. The most exciting part of this whole collaboration is working as a collaborative group. We have been working excellently as a team and everyone’s ideas are heard equally. Most importantly, I would like the audience to take away from the show that life is only what you choose to make of it.

Character:
Hi there, my name is Howie. I am the town’s milkman and I have developed many friendships with the towns folk through delivering all their milk each day. My biggest contribution to Grover’s Corners is being the sole supplier of milk. I am most happy when I am at home with my wife and animals. If I didn’t live in Grover’s Corners I would live in another rural town because I like the slow paced life style. My biggest motto in life is to accept what you have. I wish people knew that I am truly happy with my life and do not aspire for more.
