The sculpture which inspired the conception of Fredrick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park also inspired renderings of The Horse of different sizes are displayed in the United States and Italy.
GR’s own Fred & Lena Meijer helped save the project that resulted in “ The Horse That Almost Wasn’t”

Dedication: Oct. 7, 1999
The second casting of the 24-foot-tall version of The Horse, known as The American Horse, stands in the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Mich. The American Horse is accompanied by a sculpture education center housing an eight-foot version of The Horse as well as exhibits about sculpture and the modern-day casting process. The purchase of The American Horse casting provided a significant contribution toward completing the original statue of The Horse.

The Wyoming Horse

The legacy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Horse – the epic bronze sculpture that was more than five centuries in the making – has extended to the American western frontier with placement of a new eight-foot-tall replica in Sheridan, Wyo.

The Da Vinci Science Center Horse
Dedication: Oct. 30, 2005
The Da Vinci Science Center – the organization that is shaped by the merger of LDVHI and what was then known as the Discovery Center of Science and Technology – displays a three-foot replica of The Horse in in its main lobby, which was dedicated when the Center re-opened in its current location. The Da Vinci Science Center’s sculpture also has appeared on loan at the Discovery Times Square Exposition in New York, N.Y., and at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pa.

A 12-foot replica was placed in Charles C. Dent’s hometown of Allentown, Pa. in the Charles C. Dent Memorial Garden at The Baum School of Art

The Vinci Horse
Dedication: Nov. 17, 2001
An eight-foot bronze version of the sculpture stands in Leonardo’s birthplace, Vinci, Italy. Made possible with gifts from several benefactors, including Peter F. Secchia, the former United States Ambassador to Italy, and his wife, Joan, The Vinci horse inspired an sister city relationship between Vinci, Italy, and Allentown, Pa. A plaza in Vinci, Italy, also was named in the memory of Charles C. Dent.
