🌈 Happy HoliGays from Rainbow Collective! 🌈

As we enter this holiday season, it’s important to acknowledge that for many in the LGBTQ+ community, being gay during family gatherings can be particularly challenging. If you’re facing a lack of acceptance or understanding from your loved ones, know that you're not alone and that there are ways to navigate these tough situations.

Here are some tips to help handle difficult family dynamics:

1. **Set Boundaries:** It’s okay to protect your mental health by setting boundaries around topics of conversation or interactions with certain relatives who may not respect your identity.

2. **Find Your Support System:** Connect with friends or chosen family members who uplift and affirm you—whether through social media groups, local meet-ups, or virtual hangouts.

3. **Practice Self-Care:** Take time for yourself amidst the chaos; whether it's journaling about your feelings, engaging in hobbies you love, or simply taking quiet moments away when needed.

4. **Stay True To Yourself:** Remember that no one has the right to dictate how you should express yourself—embrace who you are unapologetically!

To our beautiful q***r community: We want each of you to feel valued and safe as we move forward into an uncertain future together—we're here for one another every step of the way!

Wishing everyone peace & joy this holiGay season ❤️✨

Today, a landmark case addressing discrimination against transgender folks is being heard before the Supreme Court. U.S. v Skrmetti is a case that will decide whether it is unconstitutional discrimination for Tennessee to ban certain medications for transgender youth that they allow for all other young people.

The decision in Skrmetti may have widespread implications, including whether other state bans like Tennessee’s can stand, or whether they must also be struck down as unconstitutional. If Tennessee’s ban is upheld, a young person who is not transgender would be able to receive the same medication that is denied to another young person simply because they are transgender.

We know that cases like this can be hard to understand. That’s why our latest blog post breaks down everything you need to know about U.S. v Skrmetti. Learn more and spread the word about why we should all be paying attention ⬇️

To the public,

We, the LGBTQIA+ community, are deeply concerned about the recent allegations of harassment against the Chief of Police stemming from our listening session with law enforcement. Video evidence clearly demonstrates a respectful and professional exchange between the Chief and City Council members. We are troubled that this interaction is being framed as harassment. This incident underscores the very reasons many in our community felt hesitant to participate in the listening session. It reinforces the perception that law enforcement cannot be trusted, even in seemingly safe and open dialogues designed to improve relations and address our community's needs. The fact that this respectful conversation is now being used to attack our allies and our community further erodes trust and creates a chilling effect on future engagement.

As we previously stated, the low attendance at the listening session was deeply disappointing and highlighted the disconnect between law enforcement and the LGBTQIA+ community. This latest incident only exacerbates that disconnect and demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what constitutes a safe space and the proactive measures needed to foster true equality. We are further disheartened to learn that years of advocacy have yielded minimal progress, as evidenced by the police policy's continued focus on binary gender language. This demonstrates a lack of meaningful action and reinforces the feeling that even small steps towards inclusivity have not been taken by our local police department. This is deeply disheartening. Our review of current police policy further reveals the work that still needs to be done to ensure equitable treatment and protection for all members of our community.

We urge everyone to view the video of the interaction for themselves and listen to the Chief's responses. As we expressed at the time, the overall tone of the event was dismissive and further highlighted the disconnect between the Chief and the LGBTQIA+ community. This incident presents an opportunity to support our community. We encourage everyone to write letters to the City Council sharing your personal experiences and highlighting the lack of support the LGBTQIA+ community receives. It is unacceptable that a safe space dialogue has been misconstrued as harassment. Please write to the City Council before their December 3rd meeting. For those feeling brave, we invite you to speak at the City Council meeting and share your stories directly. Your voices are crucial in advocating for change and ensuring that our concerns are heard and addressed.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: This video is published as received by The Loveland Voice in its entirety. It is an excerpt of the meeting, as it clearly does not re...
